For the record, this is sickening. Especially with Cardinal Keeler involved. He was about to have the new HS named after him.
But 1000 kids since 1940's is 13.693 a year. The headline is misleading. Not excusing any of this. One of the priests in Balt/Washington was in my families church in Columbia, MD. He always freaked me and my brother out. My mom too. He would stare at us during Mass. We were both twice his size, so no real worries. He was transferred to Towson parrish in the early 90's. One of the handful of times I did go to Mass during my college days, he was there, and stared again.
Years later he was arrested. Fuck him.

But priest are human. I understand that.

This is really bad. I listened to a lot of description of it on NPR as I was on the highway for about 5 hours today. Some of the details. I mean. C'mon.

I guess we should say that it's a Grand Jury thing so none of it has been definitely established beyond a reasonable doubt. But. I mean. C'mon.

I just saw where PA is about to open up a serious can of whoop-ass on the catholic church. They’re going to vote to eliminate the statute of limitations on the case. Time for Francis to get his check-writing hand limbered up.

I hope that's true.

Catholic Church has done little to right the wrongs, including the Pope everyone claims is awesome.

1000 children over 70 years by 300 priests. Horrible, of course. Anyone, still alive, should be thrown into jail until they die. That's 14 a year, in a state that has 11-13M people?
I'm not minimizing this report, its very disturbing. They all should be sent away until they die..

Those are only the ones that have come forward. Thousands likely have died by now, thousands more won't come forward for various reasons.

If they have caught 300 priests, there are probably hundreds more they didn't catch. Plus the thousands of priests that covered this up.

And the Catholic Church is still covering it up.

I never said this was a "nothing burger" (nice use of a cliche, btw. About what I expect from you).

What I've said is that if you put under the microscope any other religious or social organization with a significant youth outreach, you would wind up with the same report.

As for me, I say let's investigate historical child abuse, but without the artificial limitation that we're only going to investigate the Catholic Church. Let's put it all on the table. That's the only way we are ever going to understand how and why this happened in all walks of our society.

The fixation of the Catholic Church -- as if it was the only institution engaged in cover-up of these crimes -- is fueled by anti-Catholicism fanned by personal injury lawyers who have a monetary interest in advancing the false narrative that this was a "Catholic thing."

These lawyers don't really care about revealing the truth to help all victims of child abuse. They want to advance the lie that only the Catholic Church did this in order to inflame passions and multiply damages recoveries.
