If I remember my history right, it was a P 108 and they were only prototypes as the war ended too soon. Firing it just about shook the plane apart.

The Piaggio was a pretty good plane - comparable to the B17

it also had remote control gun turrets on top of the outboard engine nacelles

I think they only built 2 or 3 of the big gun variant.

A few of their plans at the end were very much on par with the Allies. Just no resources or time to get them into production.

At the end of the day it didn’t matter... the P 108 was a strategic bomber, designed by and for a country that did not need nor could utilize strategic bombers. It was like Germany building an aircraft carrier...
