What a life - and a true gentleman.

A member of my extended family was the plankholder skipper of the aircraft carrier that bears President Bush's name and they had an ongoing relationship with the President and Mrs. Bush. Bush was a letter writer and known for having a gracious touch. The letter he wrote my cousin for the commissioning ceremony was typical for him- classy and sincere.

He was my Congressman in Houston when my family moved there in ‘69. I met him in Wilmington in ‘80 when he was running against Reagan for the GOP nomination. Good man who did some good things as POTUS but mishandled others. “Read my lips” comment a big mistake. Flipping on it hurt him in ‘92.

We lost a good man whose presidency was lost to being in Reagan's shadow and Clinton's persona. RIP GB.

I think this letter shows the class the man had.

My dad was in protection during the 1980 primary/campaigns. He still has his “I jogged with George Bush” t-shirt.

When I lived inGrand Junction , Co, he came to visit and stopped the parade so he could go and buy an ice cream at one the local places of business. Later he sent the owner an autographed picture of the White House.

As it turns out, my cousin’s husband is going to be a pallbearer for the lying in state and the funeral.

Their daughter is in the USNA glee club so she’ll be in the ceremony too.

 18.9% of the popular vote. Clinton got 45M votes; Bush 39M; Perot 20M.

Perot was Tea Party before the Tea Party. That little elf had a chart for everything.

And as it turns out him and his charts were tight. The one I felt sorry for was Stockdale.

That was a well-intentioned but disastrous pick. All-time debate fail: a great man past his prime and completely unprepared.

Including my vote.

Always regretted that vote. I helped foist Bill Clinton onto an unsuspecting country. I’ve never forgiven myself for that.

Union Pacific painted up a locomotive to honor Bush when his library was dedicated. That unit is going to pull his funeral train.

Unit 1943 that honors the military branches may also be part of the train.

That would be a nice touch. I didn’t care for his globalistic policies, but I don’t think there was a more decent person in the office during my lifetime.

I voted for some unknown Libertarian that year, along with maybe 49 others. I was honked off at him for his flippant reversal of his tax pledge.

I said at the time that he managed situations he had to deal with well. And that includes the economy. We had a worldwide economic disturbance going on and the United States did relatively well. Also the economy in the United States had started improving well before he left office. But it didn't get through. Clinton got credit for turning the economy around when the turnaround began well before the 1992 Presidential election.

He started us on the pathway to where we are today with Russia

But given his entire body of work, that can be forgiven - there was a LOT going on in his one term. From the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, the economy, the fall of the Berlin Wall and dissolution of the Soviet Union

His administration steered around a lot of reefs in a short period- I can't see Clinton, GWB or Obama not fvxking it up badly
