No, but I did just stop automatic contributions to both of my sons college funds ten minutes ago and I'm going to the unemployment office tomorrow to start the paperwork for an unemployment insurance claim. I'm good on my rainy-day fund until about April 1. I was expecting this shutdown to be over by tomorrow, but it appears Trump is content to withhold the livelihood of my family and 850,000 other families until he gets his way.

But I'm glad you're not impacted at all. That's all that matters.

I have seen Trump try to negotiate, but Pelosi and Schumer refuse to even talk. I have been through these too, so am not unsympathetic to Fed workers. We skipped 2 paychecks before it was settled, funny thing though, don’t remember now why it was shutdown.

Funny, Dems don’t even care about DACA anymore.

Oh Bullshit. Trump had a chance to sign a bill. He refused after Ann Coulter threw a fit. He could sign a bill right now.

Hey, so I am going to cut your arm off - is that ok? What, you aren't willing to offer at least a finger? WHY ARE YOU REFUSING TO NEGOTIATE WITH ME!!!

And yes, Dems still care about DACA

850k people is not a "large number of people" when compared to the entire labor force. You realize that it is unessential gubment folks who are not working right now don't you?

Honest question, is anyone outside of the beltway really affected by this "shutdown"*?

So I just got back from the unemployment office in Dover. I'm about to take my second shower of the day. Holy hell!

I took a number and waited. And waited. Luckily, I finally got the one older white lady (BINGO!!!). The other three specialists looked unlike me and not happy to be alive - I'll leave it at that.

My agency did a solid job with my furlough letter and SF-8, as the paperwork part was pretty painless. I found out I left one week of benefits on the table by waiting as long as I did: there is a one week waiting period, then you can claim benefits. Our furlough is in week 3. Luckily I came in today, so I can claim all of week 3. I lost out on Week 2.

I qualify for the maximum of $330 a week ($1320 a month), which will almost cover my child support payment. Mortgage, car, food, electric, heat, hookers, blow, etc will all be coming directly out of savings until the shutdown ends.

I assume I will have to repay benefits if/when we get backpay, which is fine. That's only fair. I will say that I'm not going to hunt them down to give it back. When they ask, I'll repay it.

Good news is I don't have to do the job-seeking requirement since I'm on furlough. Thank God! I was envisioning operating the floor scrubber at WalMart,

Oh, he's wide open alright, as long as "negotiations" don't include actual funding of anything that resembles a wall. Wiiiiiiiiide open.

It probably works that way for court-ordered child support. We divorced without attorneys, divided our assets mutually, and set up a handshake child support payment of $1500/month. I make about 3-4 times what she makes, and the child support is a helluva lot less than the money of mine she spent while we were married, so it was a good deal for both of us. An attorney would have taken me to the cleaners for child support.

ah, that makes sense....is she not open to a reduced amount during the shutdown, or would that have to be "negotiated" with an arbitrator?

A bunch of two-faced hypocritical pieces of shit...the lot of 'em. This is entirely a political move and they only reason they DON'T support a wall now is because Trump DOES. Our government has become a running fucking joke:
Democrats are doing it over a border wall strikingly similar to one that they almost unanimously supported just five years ago. While House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., now says that "a wall is an immorality," back in 2013, she supported a bill that required the construction of 700 miles of border fencing. (Trump has called for a wall of "anywhere from 700 to 900 miles" long.) The bill negotiated by the Gang of Eight, which included current Democratic leaders Sens. Charles Schumer, N.Y., and Dick Durbin, Ill., declared that "not later than 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary [of Homeland Security] shall establish ... the 'Southern Border Fencing Strategy,' to identify where 700 miles of fencing (including double-layer fencing) ... should be deployed along the Southern border."

That's not all. The bill further said that "the Secretary may not adjust the status of aliens who have been granted registered provisional immigrant status ... until 6 months after ... [the Secretary submits] a written certification that ... there is in place along the Southern Border no fewer than 700 miles of pedestrian fencing." In other words, Democrats agreed that no illegal immigrants could get a path to citizenship until all 700 miles of border fencing had been fully completed.

Every Senate Democrat voted for the Gang of Eight bill -- including 36 Democratic senators still serving today. President Barack Obama agreed to sign it. Indeed, he praised the bill for including what he called "the most aggressive border security plan in our history" and said that "the Senate bill is consistent with the key principles for commonsense reform that I -- and many others -- have repeatedly laid out" (emphasis added). That bears repeating: Obama said building a 700-mile fence on the southern border was consistent with the principles of the Democratic Party.

Pelosi supported the Gang of Eight bill, saying at the time that "every piece of this legislation has had bipartisan support" (emphasis added). But now we are shutting down the government over a wall much like the one that Pelosi and Senate Democrats fully supported just five years ago?

There's no arbitrator or court involvement possible unless she ever decided to take it to court. I'm paying her the full amount on Feb 1, as I did on Jan 1. I'm good until April on my rainy day fund.

By the way, they just showed Trump on TV. He did an impromptu press briefing a few minutes ago. He signed a bill guaranteeing back pay for furloughed employees. He also seems to have some sense of urgency finally, as I think he's finally feeling the negative PR of the shutdown; after all he owned it and said he's proud of it. He said he is not declaring an emergency yet, and he (accurately in my opinion) said that if he does, it will be appealed to the 9th Circuit and he'll lose there and it'll be sent to SCOTUS.

What's more amazing to me than the reversal of many of the Dem politicians on this one is the fact that I don't see many (if any) Dem supporters upset by it or even acknowledging it. It is undeniable. When you have videos of Schumer going on and on about the need for border security and the evils of illegal immigration.... :suspicious:
