2020 Democratic Nomination Process Mega-thread

Post by Col Hogan »

Might as well start a thread since things are starting to heat up...

I was reading this article and thought, hey not...

The Bernie forces are out to destroy Beto...

No more old people please. No Biden. No Warren. No Clinton. No Sanders.

Need more candidates like Beto and Kamala and Booker.

My biggest concern with Booker, Kamala or Beto is how much experience do they really have running something? There is a huge difference between running a Congressional staff and running the US government. A governor is significantly more qualified to be President than a Senator or Representative. Booker's experience as a mayor gives him an edge. What exactly is Beto's "businessman" background?

O'Rourke is an even more of an empty suit than Obama. He can make me root for Ted Crúz in an election.

Both are capable of some Oscar-level acting, too

Booker already has name recognition from his remake of Spartacus

Kamala Harris at the top of the ticket is a for sure loss

Booker is damaged goods now. Caramel Harris has the best shot for the “diversity” pick. Probably Veep.

Well, he has a rich FIL. Other than that, zilch.

You worry me, 88. You used to be a voice of reason on here. Now it sounds like you’d consider voting for one of those nimrods. :ohno:

Don't worry IT, I'm voting libertarian. There is a good chance a donkey wins though so I hope it's someone who is capable.

Harris at Veep would be good. Fair or not to women, but she's an asshole and couldn't win Prez because of her assholeishness.

Spellcaster candidates are in the Druid Party, they were scheduled to meet in the Boiler Room but complained that all of the steel was interfering with their spells so their meeting has been moved to under the awning outside the backdoor. ;)

Come to think of it

The country would be a much better place if everybody took the same wait-an-see stance when it comes to the monied parties, as well

Let's just hope it works out. As I look at this I think of where we were at this point of George H.W. Bush's Presidency in late December 1990. He was at about 75% approval at this point and he rose to 89% approval in February 1991. At that point of that term Bill Clinton was just an Arkansas Governor who had given a horrible, exruciatingly boring speech at the previous Democratic National Convention. NOBODY would've pegged him as the next President.

The Democrats are in much better position now than they were then. It's similar in that they have no clear champion at this point. But then, at this point, they were dealing with a Republican incumbent who had won the popular vote by 7.8 percentage points, got 79% of the Electoral College vote, and was sailing along with an approval ratings in the mid 70s. The current Republican incumbent lost the popular vote, has an approval rating in the low 40s, and won by an Electoral College margin that ranks 46th among the 58 historical races (57% of the Electoral votes).

But a lot depends on things that are totally beyond anybody's control. Random chance. Unanticipated things happening.

One thing Clinton himself has attributed his surge prior to the general election was when Perot dropped out, while giving Clinton a nod

I thought the way she chewed up Kavanaugh and spit him out was some stuff. I bet he's still livid about getting bitch-slapped with such panache by a female on national TV.
