I start this thread each year. Given the shutdown, will you be filing later than usual?

I've begun receiving 1098s, W2x, child care forms.

The office that issues my W-2 is furloughed.

I will file as soon as they get me all my shit......it sucks waiting on stuff that computers have figured out on 1/1/2019. That said, I've started to get some of my stuff but still missing a few pieces to file. I always withhold more than I need to as I hate to pay but we'll see how this year goes.

I usually get money back from the state and have to pay the Feds, so my usual routine is complete the whole thing ASAP, file state, then pay the Feds 4/15 or so.

Ditto.

Got my tax software and have to start playing with some numbers in case I need any last minute deductions.

I'm not filing until the government re-opens. I get that financially, some people need returns as soon as possible. Fortunately I don't, so I'd rather not add work for people not getting paid. :twocents:

I’ll be paying 4/15. Stroking a big check again. Fuck the new tax law. Anyone who owns multiple properties get NO favors from the new tax laws. Trump fucked the 1%’ers....

My $40k+ "check" has already been written via automatic withholding. I'm hoping it was over, as usual, and I get some of my money back.

But again, I'll need a W2 first, and them bitches are unemployed just like me right now. I think, by law, they still have to cobble together some folks to get it to me by Jan 31. I usually get it before Jan 15. I could really use the money this year.

Are you NOT renting the properties on occasion..?

:geek:

Jeezus man...
hire a fucking tax lawyer and get that straightened out ASAP
It can get a little convoluted but $25,000 deductions on fixed assets losses and deductions is legit

My household made a little more and owed a little less. Thank you Trump tax cuts. 8-)

Were you not affected by the SALT tax reform?

That only applies to white folk.

Yes. One is rented full-time. Can’t deduct the loss because I make too much (it DOES accumulate so it’ll help in the year that I sell it)....
The other is rented on occasion. Can only deduct % based on time rented....and that’s the one with the giant property tax bill (because it’s on a lake) that is completely unwrite-offable, what with the new limit of $10,000 in prop tax deduction. Also fucked me on mortgage interest deduction, with the new cap.

All in all, probably cost me about $45,000 in deductions going forward.... :ohno: :ohno:

When my w2 comes in, I will file like normal. Should have it all done by the end of February. I try to get it done as early as possible.

W2 finally posted. Getting ~$4,500 federal return and ~$1,000 Delaware return. That in addition to a bump of around $200/paycheck in 2018 due to the Trump tax cut.

I don't get why you'd want to loan two governments that kind of cash when you could adjust your withholdings and use your money year round either with debt or as an investment of some sort. If I could net zero I'd be just about right.

Not a criticism, just a question.

I re-adjusted my W2 last year after I got socked with a huge tax bill (even after paying a boat load). I hope this year I got it closer to $0.

 Yeah, I was going to invest that money and get rich. I really need to get some specific strategies on that from you.
