I don't get why you'd want to loan two governments that kind of cash when you could adjust your withholdings and use your money year round either with debt or as an investment of some sort. If I could net zero I'd be just about right.

Not a criticism, just a question.

 Yeah, I was going to invest that money and get rich. I really need to get some specific strategies on that from you.

Your money, if you want to loan it for free and not have an additional $400/month available that's your call.

That could buy a decent amount of diesel at some point down the road. :coffee:

By the way, I'll be dieseling down I-85 through peach-that-looks-like-a-butt water tower land on Sunday and back on Tuesday. Won't really have time to socialize though.

Dude- If you’re driving through Charlotte, give me a call if you want a beer.

No kidding - I can be at I-85 in 8 minutes on Sunday and depending on your return Tuesday probably as quickly depending on if I'm going from work or home.

If you two want to get a beer on Sunday that might be fun. Let me know. I have to be in Atlanta to check into a hotel by 10pm-midnight or so.

For the past few years I filed for extension so, for me, filing by April 15 (which I hope to do) would be "early." Also I learned today that I was short on estimated tax payment because my wife's real estate gross was about $5,000 more than I thought it was. Naturally I found out when she got her 1099 two days after the last 2018 estimated tax payment was due. I do try to be conservative so maybe I still paid enough.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Will probably have to file an extension and then file just before the October deadline.

I fucking hate the accountant that does the farm taxes.

Just finished doing my taxes; it's the first time in my life I'll owe money to the government.

Thanks tax cut!

Didn’t you get a raise from the tax cut during the year? Or did Your bracket not change?

Probably a pay raise that he isn't accounting for.

And as a young up and coming engineer, if he didn't get a pay raise last year then he needs to look for a new place of employment. :coffee:

Still waiting for one 1099 and my wife's W-2. In this day and age of computers how hard is it to get this stuff out quickly? :ohno:

Put preliminary numbers in my software and I'm looking at a $1,700 refund. That's a swing from normally owing about $600-700. Plus my income is up and my wittholding was about $2,100 less during the year. By the time I add in the wife's final stuff it will probably be a savings of about $5,000 which is what I expected when the tax cut was passed.

My final required form from the IRS, Passive Activity Loss Limitations (8582), became available this morning, so I was finally able to e-file via TurboTax.

My effective rate (total tax ÷ AGI) for 2018 was 16.87%, down from 18.97% in 2017.

Woot. Phat return.
