There was an old adage that politeness in the American South was due to the fact that everybody was armed, and insults could get you challenged to a duel.

I think we should bring back dueling. Especially now that we have livestreaming

Of course, that old adage also glossed over the significant violence, especially towards people of color, through Reconstruction and the Jim Crow days. Some people didn't even need to be impolite to be targets. :ohno:
