Handshake Ban?

A survey by TotalJobs found that three out of four people want all physical contact banned at work. The idea is to remove confusion over what kind of touch is appropriate.

Some companies are now considering whether they should prohibit handshakes.
This made me think of the stupid Sylvester Stallone movie (is that redundant?) Demolition Man. It was somewhat entertaining because it had a good supporting cast (Snipes, Bullock, warden from Shawshank...) but what made it so dumb was the view of a futuristic society where foul language and violence of any kind were against the law and even physical contact like sex was frowned upon. Doesn't seem so far fetched all of a sudden. :ohno:

I do have to admit, something about the younger generation and just generally poor handshakes. Parents really set up the Millennials to have a tough time of it. Should've been one of the easier things to teach.

It was. My kids know how to shake hands, look people in the eye and actually talk to them. If I ever heard they ran into a friend of mine and they didn't do all three, they got an earful from me. Started that at an early age.

An advantage of taking kids to church at a young age - at the sign of peace they have multiple opportunities to practice the firm handshake and look the person in the eye and say something. You figure after multiple years they should finally get the hang of it.

We're working on the handshake with Lil CCU. She's all about waving and saying, "hello" or "goodbye" and giving high fives.

Or a fist bump if you're inclined. :thumb:

This. And I push for them to address the parents that they know by saying their names (Hi Mrs. @#$% or Thank you Mr. @#$%). Verbal communication is important too.

Add that to things Jeff hates most in life: children, handshakes...

It's really weird that folks don't get along with you.

Most people aren't trying to shake a 4yr old hands. They'll go for the high five first.

Handshakes aren't very hygienic, fistbumps are healthier.

For example, last fall I was watching my son's HS soccer game and went to use the restroom at halftime. One of the refs was in there and left without washing his hands. I asked my son if he shook the refs' hands after the game and he said no, they do fistbumps now.
