LMAO - you have no response, so name calling.

And what I said is true. You just can't admit it.
I guess you didn't read the rest of the thread where I called out folks for these red herrings EXACTLY like yours. What you said is folly.

BTW, name calling? :suspicious:

Also anyone refusing to acknowledge abortion as murder has their own issues as well. :coffee:

There is no proof that this claim pre-dates Christianity.

Buddhism, at its essence, eschews focus on the miraculous. Accordingly, it is doubtful that the earliest written folklore included a claim that the Buddha walked on water. While earliest texts of Theravada Jatakas dated from the 4th century BCE, such writings have been passed on and translated over time, with additional folklore often added, or existing folklore modified. As CID observed above, the Buddha has become “more miraculous” over time.

Scholarly consensus: Buddha’s miracles were not part of the earliest folklore and became additional folklore over time.

Whether you believe them or not, the claims of Christ walking on water were part of the first Gospels.

Also, the case cannot be made that miracle stories in Christianity derive from or are influenced by Buddhism in any way.

In the Old Testament, there were numerous recorded accounts of great or miraculous signs being seen as the presence or the favor of God. Accordingly, writing in the same tradition, the Gospel writers included accounts of the great signs performed by Jesus. These signs would be viewed, in the Jewish traditions, as testimony that Jesus was “The Son of God.”

Joe,
All faith based stories become "more miraculous" over time...
that's a built in feature of humans and story telling, no faith is immune to this

it's all based on what you decide to believe
if it's Buddha walking on water in 350 BCE
or Jesus and Peter taking a morning jog across the sea of Galilee

you decide to believe one or the other or both or neither (Faith alone)

Sometimes it’s ok to just wade through it too...

“A senior monk and a young monk were traveling together. At one point, they came to a river with a strong current. As the monks were preparing to cross the river, they saw a very young and beautiful woman also attempting to cross. The young woman asked if they could help her cross to the other side.

The two monks glanced at one another because they had taken vows not to touch a woman.

Then, without a word, the older monk picked up the woman, carried her across the river, placed her gently on the other side, and carried on his
journey.

The younger monk couldn’t believe what had just happened. After rejoining his companion, he was speechless, and an hour passed without a word between them.

Two more hours passed, then three, finally the younger monk could contain himself any longer, and blurted out “As monks, we are not permitted a woman, how could you then carry that woman on your shoulders?”

The older monk looked at him and replied, “Brother, I set her down on the other side of the river, why are you still carrying her?”

Depends on which "Time" you're referencing...
had the Gospel been written at the time of Paul's letters some decades after Jesus..?

The oral traditions within the church formed the substance of the Gospels...
John wasn't even written until 100 plus years later

imagine the possibilities

According to Chapter 9 of the Acts of the Apostles, Paul encountered the voice of Christ as he traveled on the road to Damascus, where he was heading to persecute Christians.

Paul also recounted that he was called by Christ in a number of his epistles. So there's an account of a miracle that occurred within three years of the Crucifixion, and which was memorialized in writing by Paul within the next few years.

Also, many of the other epistles include claims of a risen Christ. This means that the claim of the risen Christ were made, and placed in writing, long before the Gospels were memorialized in writing and were, in fact, placed into writing within a few years after the claimed Resurrection.

The argument that the Gospels were put into writing "long after" the Resurrection ignores that the epistles make the same claim, and were written at times shortly after the life of Christ.

And, for the record, the Gospel of John was put in writing between 90 and 100 C.E. That means it was possibly less than 60 years between the Resurrection and John's Gospel being put down in writing.

Joe,
God talked to George Bush every day
and Pat Robertson and Billy Graham

Why have we stopped documenting these miracles ?
Shouldn't we still be writing the gospel if these are still happening ?

Last month there were over a thousand Jesus Christ sightings at the Notre Dame fire alone
The incredible mind boggling miracles are still happening

I'm not misrepresenting Christianity in any way...
Please identify exactly where..?

Just because Joe differs in opinion - he doesn't have any more "facts" than anybody else
He just spins them to serve his desired outcome

Which I'm totally cool with
and then he typically resorts to calling me names
(which is usually what people do when they are winning a debate, start name calling)

Anyway...
God is a fascinating topic and always will be for me
it doesn't frighten me and I will always accept new information
and alter my opinion based on the quality of that new information

You and Joe do not have that luxury
