the Republican hand wringing over Google is delicious sauce...

So you're saying people can be influenced by discrete malicious factors..?
Information we already know about Russia and Facebook and manipulating information in key states
No big deal - didn't really happen

but Google manipulating data - that's a real problem

Too hilarious

That's two whopper false equivalences in this thread, Chizz.

Unless you're going to try and tell me there's no difference in being able to create fake Twitter accounts and actually controlling what search results and Youtube videos people will see.

The guy from the email wasn't suggesting removing the videos or preventing people from viewing them. It was to remove them from "suggested" videos... videos they're recommending you watch.

What about the hypocrisy of complaining about Google and giving Comcast, etc. a free pass with gutting net neutrality? I can use other search engines, I might not have other options for internet providers. Is it ok because their politics are righteous or because they make generous contributions to politicians?

The equivalency is "information manipulation"
and choosing to believe that it matters over here but not over there

When you understand the Russian Facebook scenario beyond the Fox News interpretation
please come back - it will be an interesting conversation at that point

I imagine Pwns would be pretty upset if a member of Google's BoD stumped for Hillary at the DNC convention. One might even say it would produce a bit more outrage than this email from a nobody. :coffee:

I looked at the article. They pretty much have nothing. What they do it snip small segments of language out of context. You should not even be looking at Newsbusters. It is not a credible source. And neither is Project Veritas.

Google is simply trying to control the distribution of false information.

It is truly tragic that the conservative movement has come to this. If you want to win, you should try to win with the truth. Now we have crap like this Newsbusters thing and Project Veritas trying to win with lies and deception.

Well, I believe that I must tell the truth

I didn’t realize we had a monopolistic bakery that controls 90% of the baking industry

When we have a Federal System that encourages industry monopoly
and actively supports protectionism - you get what you get

You would think a bunch of free market competition loving fiscal conservatives would be consistent when it come to monopolies like they are with the debt.

Yes, Google has 90+% of the search engine market but there are alternatives and it isn't difficult to use them. You just type in a Bing, Yahoo or something else and off you go. It's easier than finding a different, more agreeable baker.

And I still get a chuckle out of all the hypocritical politicians b!tching about Google controlling content (after they gutted net neutrality) or being a monopoly (while advocating for big government monopoly and failing to understand that in the technology industry, dominant firms rise and fade - IBM, Microsoft, Apple, etc.).
