Gun rights people need to be careful here in talking about the failure of laws because this is one of those situations in which the shooter bought a gun that was legal in a neighboring State then illegally brought it into California. Whey you raise the issue of laws the obvious response is to say that the Federal government needs to do something to make sure we don't have various State laws that allow different things. Understand that I am a person who thinks that if one honestly interprets the Second Amendment according to what it says and what was intended they would say the Federal Government cannot prohibit the sale of the weapon used in this instance. But this is not a situation in which one can say that it was a failure of California's gun control laws or in which one can say that if ordinary citizens would've been armed the situation would've ended better. The Police were right there. The local government had a heavy police presence in place.
