Rifles are a hot topic at the moment. They're very scary to a lot of very sensitive people. But, this fear of rifles may be misguided, if they are hoping to pursue an approach of banning the most likely weapons that kill people in the US.

Per the 2017 FBI Uniform Crime Report, in the US, the number of homicides committed by weapon type were:

Knives - 1,591
Personal weapons (hands, fists, feet, etc.) - 692
Blunt objects (clubs, hammers, etc.) - 467
Rifles - 403

So to me, it sounds like common cutlery, human appendages, and hammers are the real enemy here.

Discuss.

PS. In the non-homicide realm, motor vehicles killed 40,100 Americans in the same period. (110 people a day)

Yeah I was going to ask where the handgun deaths were .... since they make up the vast, vast majority of firearm deaths.
