WWW III, anyone?
Trump threatens to 'obliterate' Turkish economy over Syria incursion plan
- following his decision on Sunday to pull out U.S. forces from northeastern Syria
The U.S. withdrawal will leave Kurdish-led forces in Syria that have long allied with Washington vulnerable to a planned incursion by the Turkish military which brands them terrorists.

Trump’s stern words seemed to be aimed at placating critics who accused him of abandoning the Syrian Kurds by pulling out U.S. forces. Leaders from both parties and both houses of Congress joined in the criticism, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Trump’s fellow Republican.

“As I have stated strongly before, and just to reiterate, if Turkey does anything that I, in my great and unmatched wisdom, consider to be off limits, I will totally destroy and obliterate the Economy of Turkey (I’ve done before!)” Trump tweeted....

Turkey has repeatedly threatened to carry out an incursion against U.S.-backed Kurdish fighters in northeastern Syria who have links to Kurdish guerrillas operating next door in Turkey.

The United States began pulling troops back from the northeast Syrian border on Monday, effectively giving Turkey a green light to move into the area.

‘STAB IN THE BACK’

It is a major policy shift that was denounced as a “stab in the back” by Kurdish-led forces who have been Washington’s most capable partners in fighting Islamic State in Syria, also known by its acronym ISIS.

U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat, called on Trump to “reverse this dangerous decision” to withdraw, saying in a statement that it threatened regional security and sent a message to Iran and Russia, as well as U.S. allies, that the United States is no longer a trusted partner.

McConnell, the Republican Senate leader, said in a statement: “A precipitous withdrawal of U.S. forces from Syria would only benefit Russia, Iran, and the Assad regime. And it would increase the risk that ISIS and other terrorist groups regroup.”

Lindsey Graham, a Republican senator who is generally a vocal Trump supporter, on Fox News Channel criticized the Syria pullout decision as “impulsive.”

France warned that the U.S. decision to withdraw from northeastern Syria could open the door to a revival of Islamic State, which has suffered significant battlefield losses to a U.S.-led coalition in the area.
Without "Mad Dog" pulling his chain, the impulsive nature of Trump prevails. The Arab Baathists and Islamists will re-align with the Sunnis and ISIS, and the Peshmerga will fight Turkey to the 'last man standing.'

Trump, being dead from the neck up, does not realize this ...
:dunce:

Trump isn't going to do anything to hurt Trump Tower Istanbul's bottom line.

The Kurds should have commissioned a Trump Tower Qamishli and they'd get independence along with anything else they want. :D

Trumps greatest feature is that he owns hotels all over the globe
this keeps him focused on his personal interests and financial stability

and not war...

:geek:

if he had oil interests and Pentagon Contracts interests he'd be like Bush & Bush & Cheney
focused on war and selling war

McConnell joins other Republicans in rebuking Trump’s Syria withdrawal
President Trump faced a swift torrent of Republican criticism Monday as lawmakers rebuked his plan to withdraw troops from northeast Syria, a move Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said would undermine America’s national security and potentially bolster Islamic State terrorists...

In a joint statement with Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) said Monday that he would seek to hold congressional hearings “as soon as possible” on Trump’s decision.

“Barring a reversal of this decision, the Administration must come before Congress and explain how betraying an ally and ceding influence to terrorists and adversaries is not disastrous for our national security interests,” the two senators said.
Wag the dog, Trumpie?
Create chaos internationally to deflect those domestic problems
at home?

So TRUMP fucked over the Kurds. Got them to abandon defensive positions, then gave the Turkish Dictator a green light to invade.

By the time the Trump nightmare is over, no one will trust the US. Which is exactly what Putin wants.

Pretty fucking obvious who Trump represents (hint, it is not the US).

But Trumptards are too in love with Fetuses and Guns to see reality. Really pathetic.

Every group in that region f*cks us time and time again, yet we (again) f*ck over the one group that's actually been good to us. And the GOP will angrily wave their fingers while they do nothing.

In terms of trade, Turkey has been focused far more on the EU than on the USA. America accounts for under 5% of Turkish exports. However, the real threat to Turkey comes from economic sanctions, tariffs, and Turkish currency fluctuations. The dollar spiked over 2% in value against the Turkish lira today. So Trump’s tweets have real effect.

I agree with everything here except blaming only the GOP. Both parties have participated in fvcking over the Kurds.

This is what being World Police gets us, among other things

The binary choice is -

1) boots on the ground expending blood and treasure forever

2) abandon the Kurds to their fate

It is painfully obvious that #2 was inevitable. The only thing left to us is to create a special immigrant visa class for Kurds so they can come live in Minneapolis and fight Somalis for gang turf

The Kurds, if they are lucky, will just wind up abused and subjugated like the Montagnards

Like all other things, only a Trump could fvxk the Kurds. Under any other President we’d still be over there in full force. And a certain group of loud voices would be decrying our presence there and not/not mourning the potential fate of the Kurds.

Just remind yourselves that Kurds would be mostly GOP voters if they were here and you’ll feel better about it

Serious question: Why is Turkey in NATO? They don't even seem to have the same interests as the rest of the group.

Let's remember today when 10 years from now we're facing a wave of Kurdish terrorism.

We now tear up treaties, abandon allies, praise dictators, and dismiss murder. With friends like the US...
