If the House Voted... on Impeachment Today...(POLL)

...how many Donk Congressfolk would imitate Brave, Brave Sir Robin, and “Run away” (vote no) in the face of polls showing weakening support for impeachment?

Show your work.

Unless you’re JSO.

I’ll start. I’ll guess 1-10, upon special dispensation from Reichsmarshalls Pelosi und (sic) von Schiff for a handful of Donk Congressmen in Trump districts. They can lose about 17 votes and still vote to impeach.

I could see double digit defectors - the impeachment train is losing steam - especially in the swing states. I still think they'll impeach though - it'd be political suicide for most of the Dems not to at this point.

I'd guess about a dozen. There were 2 Ds that voted no to start the process and the cracks are starting to show with others. One of them cracking is Cindy Axne from Iowa. If she votes for impeachment her re-election gets much harder. She's catching a lot of flack because USMCA hasn't passed the House yet.

Nancy Pelosi is probably the best whip in either house of Congress. She isn’t going to vote on articles of impeachment unless she can get unanimity in her own caucus. Or, she might be able to provide cover for a defector or two but not sure yet how she does that.

This lull in hearings is completely poll driven. Schiff himself said he needed to get back to his district and listen to his constituents (which is BS because his district is blue).... that’s code for they don’t yet have the whole caucus on board.

But the nut base and The Squat will go berserk if she doesn’t follow through. This is a hole she dug for herself. My guess is that she will go with least bad option which right now means they may opt for an official censure over impeachment.

Donks in the swing districts are going to need more than what has come out in the hearings to get behind impeachment.

Let's face it, many people are inured to people in high office putting politics over the country or using their office to enrich themselves. No opinions will change at this point. Unless Trump really one ups himself soon the mercury won't rise enough.

I do think Pelosi has to at least try even if she knows she'll fail because the best way to hand big momentum to Bernie and Lizzie in the primaries is to punt and say "well, the facts are out there, Trump will have to answer to the American next year".

The Democrats should have a cake walk in 2020. They just never know when to leave good enough alone. They and their supporters exist in a never-ending circle jerk through which they convince themselves that they are a majority.

I'm not sure if they think they're in the majority or if they're certain of the moral rightousness of their positions. Which makes them frightingly similar to the evangelicals that they despise.

Oh, they are DEFINITELY certain of the moral righteousness of EVERYTHING they believe. To the point that if a self-proclaimed Dem disagrees with a single plank of the new party, they’re ostracized and brow beaten into submission to toe the ENTIRE party line. How very fascist of them.

They also take the stereotypical government position that they need to fix a crack in the windshield with a fucking sledgehammer. Instead of tweaking a system that put America at the top of the heap on the entire globe within 100 years, they want to throw it all away for a system that’s been proven a failure over and over and over and over.

That’s a fair post until the last sentence which assumes the US didn’t change over whatever 100 years of history you’re claiming. :dunce: And then somehow equate the recent Democratic Party I suppose to pinkosociocommiestalinism.

Oh no. The US has changed. Doesn’t change the fact they (the new face of the party) insist that you march lockstep to every belief. And if not, you’re excommunicated. And are you saying they do NOT want to move to socialism?

Yes...the preachiness of the left can be unbearable.

So...if we were to make JoltinJoe and UNI88 top dog Democratic Party strategists for a day, what would your prescriptions be to gain favor with the voters? Pivot to the right?

No. It’s as simple as be the adult in the room. Pivot to the ISSUES (which might be a little tough since there aren’t many right now).
Guess they could pray for a recession?

Well, AZ, that Detroit Congresswoman who strayed from the impeachment fold two days ago returned sheepishly to the fold in less than 24 hours. Gotta present a united front!

Although there’s a mirror image situation on the GOP side right now. How is Amash polling in his “independent” run for re-election? :coffee:

Well, you KNEW that was going to happen. It's been their MO for the past 3-4 years. NO dissention. NO individual thought. NO compromise.

True but as Ivy pointed out, it's also true on the other side of the aisle with Amash as exhibit A.

Yeah donks dug themselves a big hole with this one. Hold no impeachment vote and the far left gets butthurt and support probably wanes, hold the vote and the D's in purple districts now have to defend their vote while also explaining why they have done nothing in the House but focus on impeachment. Whoops.
