Like the tumultuous adolescent years of human development, the changes during the teen years of the 21st century disrupted American identity as we’ve known it. These transformations have come upon us quickly, upending long-standing assumptions — particularly among white Christians — about the American social fabric. And as with teenagers, they have created a lot of anxiety and fear about the future.

Of all the changes to identity and belonging, the century’s second decade has been particularly marked by a religious sea change. After more than two centuries of white Anglo-Saxon Protestant dominance, the United States has moved from being a majority-white Christian nation to one with no single racial and religious majority

Christian, meh

I’m more concerned about the loss of cultural value in concepts such as the Enlightenment

There are cultures and religions that are inimical to that... and in that respect, if they die off then good

Every lib rag in this country regularly points out that more and more people are eschewing evangelicalism. Fewwr and fewer young people are gravitating to christianity, while the people who are affecting our social structure the most are the ones who practice the religion of “you cannot say that”... and they seem to currently be wildly successful

I'm just pointing out ideological training - it comes in every flavor color and creed

The oldest targets and easiest targets are the ones that are "exempt" from criticism such as "religion"
so it makes for a great example - that which cannot be criticized

1) religion
2) patriotism
3) female sex or gender

These things ^ are the easiest to toss in the sacred pile of beyond criticism

I’m just making an observation about what you find to be a “really big deal” and what you don’t

It would be interesting to see how that has changed over the last 50 years or so. It would also be interesting to see any changes within the numbers. I would guess the number of Christians has dropped and that the number of catholics who are recent immigrants has gone up.

Is the number of evangelicals really dropping? I would guess that the Americans who are reproducing are evangelicals and immigrants.
