That is what a lot of countries with successful COVID-19 responses did.

Most of the Thai provincial governors closed down their borders. It only takes a couple weeks

Demographics could matter if tests in April focused on the most at-risk people who were more likely to use precautions and now more younger people who are less likely to use precautions are being tested. At least some of the increase in infection rates can be accounted for by the increased testing. People are testing positive that would not have qualified for testing earlier.

I'm not saying we should ignore the number of cases but we should be trying to normalize the results so that comparisons over time are valid.
The average age of those testing positive is in the high 30's now. That's good news as people in their 30's are very unlikely to die from the Chinese Flu.
And people under 40 are really good spreaders.

I think I'm in love with the nurse.

Nurse: *shrugs* "Yeah pretty much."

And? Those at risk should be taking plenty of precautions by now.

So let’s shutdown the economy longer for those over 40?

This an intriguing and important discussion.

1). Resist shaming social distancing behavior.

2). Because we need government to send more clear signals and rules?

Nope, open everything back up. Those at risk or too scarred can take precautions as deemed necessary. It's really not that hard to understand.

No. Let's stop quarantining the healthy, and those that are more susceptible can take their own precautions.

How many will that be? What will their economic quarantine cost? Will it be like Sweden? Will hospitalization rates go down?

Which is a perfect combination. Low deaths, quick herd immunity.

No work needs to be shown, only thing needed to know is that people didn't drop dead at the millions the "experts" claimed. Having a bunch of 30 something running around with this doesn't change that.

There is no herd immunity with most coronaviruses, including the common cold.

We know very little about what, if any immunity is being conferred by contracting this virus- so it is pretty cavalier at this stage to be hedging on herd immunity.

Correct. There's a study out today from Spain that herd immunity is likely not achievable with Covid-19.

It's the first large study done regarding herd immunity and obviously we need more, but the results still track closely with other coronaviruses, as you mentioned.

No surprise in that headline

It depends on which way your “expert” leans

I’m a bit surprised that it was the NYT that couched it that way
