Well it's kinda unfortunate that we need to have these rich people events when you know...we could raise taxes to better support our cultural institutions. In this specific case though, that's on New York City's politicians.
Like I said, AOC could of done both but she picked the most selfish way to show her "support" of her causes. Hence the irony.
Yet here we are, talking about it. Pretty good bang for your marketing buck even if she had bought the ticket.

You are right, there is talk about the event.

But as somebody once said "talk is cheap". How much money did she raise? Did she get commitments to her agenda?

Guess we will see. She put on a good show though. :thumb:

AOC has one of the largest donor pools (and top 5 war chests) in the DNC. And she uses that influence to raise money for good causes all the time.
It's one of her major things on social media.

Heck, this year she raised more money for Texas winter relief organizations than any Texas rep did.

Who paid for her ticket to the event? Was it the organizer? Or was it a sponsor?

Also doesn't answer the use of masks to segregate the haves from the have nots.
I believe the ticket and the dress were donated.

But the irony is that AOC, a self-touted champion of the poor and an individual that believes in the idea that everybody should be on a monetarily equal playing field, attends an event that only the very rich can attend, in a dress that costs more than most people clear after taxes in 4+ months.

She used to event to support her "message" in a way that built up her as an individual more. She could of conducted a charity event (I am sure the Met would of been more than happy to accommodate the action due to the positive publicity) that auctioned off the event and a dress to the cause AOC has publicly supported (helping the poor). But she decided to follow in the very socialist and capitalistic tradition of looking out for number 1, herself.
Who donated them matters ...

AOC hit with second ethics complaint over Met Gala attendance
The complaint from the National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC) to the Office of Congressional Ethics alleged that Ocasio-Cortez improperly accepted tickets from a table sponsor for herself and her boyfriend.

House rules allow members to take free tickets to charity events directly from event organizers, and The Post reported Tuesday that AOC and boyfriend Riley Roberts were directly invited by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

However, the NLPC argued that "it is the table sponsor who is gifting or underwriting a coveted seat to AOC at the Gala.

"And if … the table where AOC sat was one paid for by one of [the] corporations attending the event, such as Instagram or Facebook, AOC has received a prohibited gift from the corporation that also lobbies Congress."

I mean the NLPC is conservative so I get the attack, but that's so dumb.

It's a gala and tables are going to be sponsored. The Met then invites whoever and puts them at whatever table. This is nothing special to AOC or galas or the history of how charity events work.

Of course it's good political strategy/propaganda though. At worst, you get a headline that says "AOC gets ethics complaint" and proceed to never follow-up on it. At best, you somehow get the person. Its a win-win situation no matter the result.

Interesting, you think rules that conservatives fall afoul of are good and should be enforced and rules that pseudo-progressives fall afoul of are dumb.

There are rules and her team should have known about them. I'm not even a staffer and I knew about them from my experience with state rules. Theyre either incompetent or she thinks the rules don't apply to her. Maybe she could hire me as a consultant and pay me millions like what's her name fellow squatter does with her boy-toy.

Any guesses as to who the Donks will blame when the COVID numbers blow off the roof in Texas in about a month?

No, what I'm saying is that she didn't break the rule. Nor would any conservative if they did the same.

Right-wing media won't follow-up on this complaint. It's a win for the NLPC; they get a headline and a story people can share, and the right-wing eats it up. The left does the same too, not to the amount the right does though. It's a very common political strategy.

You need to just lock yourself into your condo until this thing is gone.
Seriously. I mean I travel for work and work in the office, but obviously it's tough to pinpoint how I got it.

Hopefully it won't be as bad this time around though. :?

edit: VDH, on behalf of NIH, just contacted me to do an antibody test. Says it's for a study about antibody responses in breakthrough cases.
I get $40 out of it.
My antibody count is >2500. It doesn't mean Covid can't take hold, but it's a sign there's a robust immune response at the moment. The minor cough is actually gone this morning, although I still have a sore throat and developed some congestion overnight. O2 level is at 98%.

Moderna is the vaccine I took.

edit: also confirmed it's the Delta variant.

I hear AOC could use it. :coffee:

After all fighting the good fight takes quite a bit of money.

Why the Met Gala cost $35k to just get in and then one has to consider what to wear. Can't just go with any old outfit but need something that really rises to the occasion and tells a good story. Around $10k should do the trick.

If I'm correct, the gal on the right, who designed the dress is dating the heir to the Seagrams brand. In addition, it appears her "tax the rich" design was copied from a street artist.

The artist called it out, but worships AOC, so it was all okay!!

Edit:. Just saw this. The designer is a deadbeat as well. Yay for AOC picking such great people to work with.

No idea, but my best guess is work (probably travel or recent survey work).

Hard to tell though. I don't do indoor stuff besides work, but obviously Covid can still spread outdoors and Delta is more contagious.

I saw that last night and was going to post it as well. She seems to like to shirk her responsibilities to the government and her employees. She sounds worse than Amazon.

Waiting for the board's partisan liberals (Trip, Kalm, and Jelly; Houndy will just try to deflect with an attempt at half-assed humor) to twist themselves into logistical pretzels telling us why AOChe isn't a hypocrite.

It was borderline but she should have been more careful. I don't agree that the right does it more. They both play dirty but each in their own way.
