Did the person just leave from one errand and is en route to another errand and didn't feel like taking it off? Do you have any idea why they're wearing the mask? Why does it bother you?

I wore mine in the car today. We are viewing rental houses in the Sterling Va area and I wore mine driving between viewings. I’ve gotten so used to wearing one in Thailand that I forgot I had it on.BDKJMU wrote:Skjellyfetti wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 6:38 pm Oh please. Go right ahead. Tell us what's wrong with this.

That's what makes it hard to even listen to news headlines or posts like Trip's there. I don't think there's a single case so far in America, during the entirety of the COVID period, where a person died of COVID, or even had a bad medical outcome, that was attributable to overcrowding and not being able to receive the care they would've had it not been overcrowded. Even NYC in the dark early days still treated everyone and overflow facilities weren't used. So far, same thing here in the southern states, except even less dire than NY was because of the age group being infected, the knowledge we know now in terms of how to treat this, and so on.
I'm not saying COVID isn't a dire emergency, but we've shown that we have the medical capabilities and facilities, and the flexibleness in those areas, to more than cope with the surges we have seen so far, both at the initial stages of this and now in this recent summer surge. Where the concern and focus should be isn't on this, but rather on our ability to carry on with the important facets of life - education, work, societal interactions - and what needs to be done to do that. Scaring people about hospital and ICU capacities are not working, especially as they carry false implications. Focusing on what's needed to allow those other things to happen should be the focus. It's nuanced and it doesn't fit into a pre-conceived political perspective, so that's probably why we aren't doing that at the national level, in government or the news media, but it's what matters to everyday life for regular folks.
Buckle up.
IMO, we do just as much harm trying to twist the narrative to scare people and score political points as we do trying to twist the narrative and make people believe this is all a hoax. Trump is bad in his own right, but the equal and opposite reaction to Trump just doubles down on bad leadership. Pragmatism is sorely needed at times like these.

I'll wear it if I'm driving between places. Why touch it when I don't have to?
The only times I don't wear it is between home and some place or vice-versa.

I get it if you are driving between places in town/city so you aren't touching it and your face. What I find odd is when I see someone driving alone, on a country road in the middle of nowhere Iowa, with it on.

For all the negative Nancy's out there. It would be illegal to ask anything more then if a person has a medical reason. You cant ask what the medical condition is or for proof. Just like all the people bringing their supposed service animals into public places.

That math looks as dubious as 6.93 does. That's basically 117,000 in the first 4 weeks. Is that what you're saying?

Re: Coronavirus COVID-19
I made that number up. Actually, it was 48,767 in the first four weeks, 100,000 in the first 8 weeks (by May 22). So about 36.5% in the first 4 weeks, about 75% in the first 8 weeks. We hit 100,000 on 5/22 (in just 8 weeks from the first death). Only 33,000 since 5/22; almost seven weeks. Damned death rate just not cooperating with the fear peddlers.

Re: Coronavirus COVID-19
There have been numerous anecdotal reports about health care providers getting better at managing the disease and reducing mortality rates. Kudos to them. Yes, the rate of deaths per day has decreased. But there are still plenty of deaths. And at this point we are waiting to see what happens in that regard with respect to the recent surge in cases. And the United States is still consistently near the top of the list in deaths per day.AZGrizFan wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 12:23 pmI made that number up. "Only" 33,000 deaths from an infectious disease in 47 days since 5/22/2020. Are you serious. A few months ago people were trying to underplay the severity of this because the worst seasonal flu season in the past 10 years killed about 60,000. Now 33,000 in a month and a half is nothing?

Deaths are rising in some places and falling in others (NY, for example).
Do you disagree that deaths are rising in AZ, TX, and FL?

https://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/st ... 400613002/"More concerning," Williamson said, is the increasing hospitalization numbers the state has seen this week. At least 1,110 people were hospitalized on Wednesday, accounting for more than one-third of all COVID-19 hospitalizations since March and the highest number the state has seen yet.
Dr. Jodie Dionne-Odom, an infectious disease specialist at UAB, told reporters in a press conference Wednesday that the seven-day average of new daily coronavirus cases in Alabama has increased fourfold over the past several weeks.
"We are worried about the trends we're seeing," Dionne-Odom said. "It's not about any one data point or any one number, but the fact that we're seeing sharp increases in hospitalizations and cases over the past week or two is really concerning.
