A 24-year-old Hamilton man pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges that he bludgeoned a woman's face with a hammer after arranging a date through her escort service.
Thomas Wesley Allen was initially charged with attempted murder for attacking the 37-year-old Missoula woman in his hotel room at the Redwood Lodge, near the Wye. After reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors, however, Allen admitted to a lesser charge of felony assault with a weapon.
The plea bargain was filed Monday in 4th Judicial District Court and calls for a sentence of 15 years in the Montana State Prison, with 11 years suspended. Because all inmates not serving a life sentence are deemed eligible for parole after completing one quarter of their sentence, unless a judge imposes stricter conditions, Allen would be eligible for release after serving one year.
