Damn Welfare Queens. We don't charge them market royalties, they make billions, but now they need aid?
The White House is strongly considering pushing federal assistance for oil and natural gas producers hit by plummeting oil prices amid the coronavirus outbreak, as industry officials close to the administration clamor for help, according to four people familiar with internal deliberations.
President Trump has touted the growth of oil and natural gas production under his administration, celebrating their rise in politically crucial swing states such as Pennsylvania. But many oil and gas firms were hammered Monday by the price war that broke out between Saudi Arabia and Russia, driving oil prices down in their steepest one-day drop in almost 30 years.
Everything Trump does is for short-term appearance sake.

This is already out of nothingburger territory. That does not mean I think COVID-19 is that serious in itself. But it has had significant effects on human behavior.

I thought just about everybody uses the internet when planning their vacations..I’ve planned vacations to Alaska, Hawaii 2x, Australia/New Zealand, Germany/Austria, and never used a travel agent...

I have a friend in event planning. They’re losing gigs left and right. Just talked to another who got a refund on airfare for a trip to Australia. There’s gonna need to be some bailouts for multiple industries.

Hand sanitizing and toilet paper companies can bail them out.

In principle I don't believe in helping businesses out like that. But one has to be ready to accept the consequences of application of that outlook.

That's for sure. I see there must've been some discussion of the toilet paper shortage. WTF is up with THAT? WHY would there be a run on toilet paper?

Saw a picture posted on Twitter with the shelf containing hand sanitizer empty next to a shelf full of soap. That's the virus panic in a nutshell.

Are you guys in danger of using leaves to wipe your ass or what?

Who TF cares if people are buying toilet paper? Go down to Walgreens and buy yourself a roll if you feel left out.

Like it or not, it’s going to be disruptive. National guard called in and no public gatherings allowed for a tiny outbreak zone in NY

The current downturn in oil prices I think is more due to the issues Russia and OPEC are having more than coronavirus
But one thing is true - shale oil is dependent on high oil prices to be profitable. Market forces cause oil operations to shut down and reopen all the time. Hell, in Nigeria the margin in price per barrel that would have our neighbors with Exxon packing their bags was about 30 cents
Oil companies are well practiced at moving their operations around based on supply and they are in no need of bailouts
