A White Pine man is in custody after authorities said he opened fire on a Nevada Highway Patrol Sergeant, killed him, then took his uniform and patrol vehicle.

It happened just before 6 A.M. Friday, March 27, 2020.

Investigators said Sgt. Ben Jenkins had stopped to assist a driver on US-93 and White Pine county mile marker 106, north of Ely.

The driver, later identified as 65-year-old John Dabritz, shot Jenkins, stole his uniform, then took off in the sergeant's patrol vehicle, authorities said.

Dabrtiz was found several hours later and taken into custody. He has a record of arrests going back to 1973. The weapon he used was not known.

The son of a good friend is a Highway Patrolman in Ely - the Sergeant was his mentor and lived two blocks from him. The Sergeant was working an OT shift - one my friend's son had also tried to get.

That sucks. Member of Philly swat killed last week serving a warrant.

I stayed in Ely back in 2006 on the way to nearby Great Basin National Park. On the way there I remember passing a Next Service in 80+ miles sign. Leaving there taking a different route, I passed another Next Service in 80+ miles sign.

Why start a thread solely for one police murder?

It happens every day

I have multiple friends pushing up daisies... it literally happens every day in Murica and nowadays they don’t even get the chair

these people get insta hero status in lockup and first dibs on the cafeteria checker table

when I retire I have a couple guys who I will visit regularly when they get out of prison. Because evil should not be allowed to rest
