Similar to the kryptonite thread, is there somebody to whom you might not be able to be civil? Assume you're in a public place and a friend introduces you to this person. Is there somebody that you would be unable to shake their hand (non-Covid times) and say nice to meet you? It's in this forum because I would expect to see some politicians on the list.

I would shake hands with anybody from Nazis to Conservative Christian fundies.

I would then convince them how wrong they are.

Everybody deserves to be happy in their own way without my approval...
I don't find myself very often wishing ill will on others

Lil CCU has a school friend whose father, I was told is a controlling and abusive husband. When I met him, I could see that he truly was. I was an asshole to him, pretty openly. I felt bad but then again, he's a wife abuser so fuck him.

I have zero issue shaking anybodies hand and saying "nice to meet you".

I also tend to break the ninth commandment on occasion. So take it with a grain of salt.

If it’s rude to ask “what happened to the 33,000 emails” and “why didn’t you send help to Benghazi”.....then I guess I’d be rude to Hildabeast.

I actually have thought about this scenario many times. And nearly every time I come to the conclusion that I could swallow my pride and be cordial. But there are quite a few that I'm not sure if the situation presented itself I could do it. Most elected officials I could actually do it. Respect for the office thing.

But there are a few media type that I would have a real tough time with... Joy Behar, Chuck Todd, Alex Jones... They are just gasoline.

When I saw the thread title I came in intending to say I would not be rude to anyone. But I also don't believe in acting falsely either. After the Deepwater Horizon thing I won a prestigious award for the things I did during the episode. But when I was asked to travel in person to accept it I declined because I didn't want to act like I respected the person who was going to present it to me.

I've thought before about what it would be like to get an award or honor that Trump was going to present. Obviously that would never happen to me. But I've thought that if it did I would decline rather than show up on TV acting like I respect him.

BTW the same would've been true for Obama. Recall that Obama was in charge during Deepwater Horizon thing and the person I referenced in the first paragraph was a high official in the Obama Administration.

I would spit chocolate pudding in Joy Behars face, yet I wouldnt have any trouble shaking a Nazis hand.

I dont like most people and I sure as fuck dont want to shake their hand let alone say hi or talk to them. Fuck that noise

When somebody says Nazis, I take it to mean somebody who chose to be one because they believed in the cause. Not some grunt soldier.

FTR, my grandfather's WWI cap had an iron cross. My father's WWII cap was a US Navy cap.

I can be cordial with anyone, and generally I am.

I was raised that way, but being in law enforcement and now dealing with US citizens in various crises has reinforced that.

I used to tell my patrolmen:

Whatever you do on this job, do it nicely.

When you have to help Buffy change a tire, do it nicely.

When some tourist asks you a silly question, answer nicely.

When you put the cuffs on someone, do it nicely.

Even if you have to whip someone’s everliving ass... you can do it nicely.
