Secession, C19 Version

Expanding on an exchange that CID and I had...this might not be a bad thing. Leadership is coming from the states and private sector out of necessity.

Trigger alert: it’s an op/ed piece and I don’t want it to hurt Trump sensibilities...
California this week declared its independence from the federal government’s feeble efforts to fight Covid-19 — and perhaps from a bit more. The consequences for the fight against the pandemic are almost certainly positive. The implications for the brewing civil war between Trumpism and America’s budding 21st-century majority, embodied by California’s multiracial liberal electorate, are less clear.

Speaking on MSNBC, Governor Gavin Newsom said that he would use the bulk purchasing power of California “as a nation-state” to acquire the hospital supplies that the federal government has failed to provide. If all goes according to plan, Newsom said, California might even “export some of those supplies to states in need.”

Secession has to be cleared away by the hand of God like the Jews of old.

In other words, Newsom plans to hoard supplies, then profit off them by selling them to other states.

How unAmerican of him....their secession makes perfect sense.

What's Newsom going to do? Deploy the Army of California to China to raid warehouses and factories?

No problem with it. Brits reclaiming their sovereignty is fine with me.

Generalizing about a state because of a small collection of loud-mouthed idiots is a waster of emotion
I hear the same kind of generalizations about Texas and NY and Georgia or Mississippi

these are all great states
if we judged Texas on its Politicians and Televangelists
and judged California on its Hollywood nuts and Governers we'd come to the same inaccurate conclusion

its not how this works - its not how any of this works
except Florida

Well said.

And Newsom had to say something over the top to counter his praise of Trump and appease the DNC, apparently this is it.

Newsom is still pissed that his ex, Kim Guilfoyle, is now banging Don Junior.

Meh...
I travel a lot for my job and am constantly amazed at how wonderful this country is from point to point
people that don't understand that should get out more

Mostly I hear how awful California and Texas are from people that have some kind of political stance
Truth be told they are both amazing states and it's my pleasure every time I get to go to either
and that is quite often

I have never found reason to dislike any state I have visited. They all have something to offer, though I am particular to states with mountains (I grew up in the forested rolling hills and it is comforting to not be able to see from horizon to horizon... regardless of what those uncouth Neanderthal Big Sky people say

Same. There’s been certain spots in certain states that I have no need to go back to (like New Orleans, or most of Louisiana for that matter), but I don’t “dislike” any. Used to hate Florida, but turns out that was an emotional response to the fact my ex-wife and I divorced there. Been back many times since, and it’s no longer on the “hate” list. Sure wish Texas had mountains like Montana. It’s really the only thing missing.
