DoD Could Lose Space Force Name
Looks like Netflix is about to do DoD out of the name of the Space Force. They've already trademarked it in several countries.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Watched episode 1 tonight. Great cast including Malkovitch and an obviously dying Fred Willard.
Entertaining and eerily current right down to AOC, Schumer, and Pelosi as douchebags. A little something for all stripes.

Re: DoD Could Lose Space Force Name
I think a lot of people got triggered over Netflix making a parody of Space Force, but it really isn’t anything new.
The Air Force was carved out of the Army after WWII and people in the military STILL make fun of things like the Air Force scrambled eggs, etc.
But making the Air Force it’s own branch was necessary as it was unwieldy as a part of the US Army.
In reality, we have had a “space force” subdivision of the USAF for decades. Whole shuttle missions were military in nature, we have a satellite network that is purely military, and the Air Force to this day maintains the ability to put unmanned vehicles into space. A separate branch was bound to happen at some point.
I’m not excited about the militarization of space, but the Chinese and to a lesser degree the Russians are racing at it as hard as they can.. and they are way ahead of us in some respects. China has developed ASAT capabilities at a breakneck pace. They are ahead of us in terms of their ability to deny us battlespace visibility. Their entire military doctrine is based on area denial and they currently have the capability to blind us because they can kill our GPS satellites en masse. We do not have the capability to do the same to them (because they have retained other navigational methods while we have allowed ours to calcify... that’s our fault).
In the next 20 years there are going to be space-based hypersonic delivery vehicles. China is closer to putting them up there than we are. I hate the idea of a new Cold War but we really do not have a choice but to respond to them. Also, a new military branch is a whole new budgetary carve-out (though I believe the Space Force will remain under the Dept of the Air Force, like the USMC is under Dept of the Navy).
I’m sure Trump’s motives were purely “spirit fingers” but the need for a focused military policy for extraterrestrial operations in a sound one, given what our adversaries are up to.

Re: DoD Could Lose Space Force Name
Agreed, we've had a Space Force in all but name for decades now, we just housed them in the Air Force up to now. But, as with all things Trump, he can make anything into a story and a few of his opponents will be anti anything he does, even the occasional good thing. It's the political quagmire we're stuck in right now.
As for the show, I actually like it - and I agree with kalmie, Malkovitch is great to watch and it was eerie seeing Willard in what I think was his last role. And I'm a Steve Carell fan - I'll watch him in anything and like it.

I noticed that. Fred Willard looked awful.
I watch E1 and there is something about Steve's character I don't like. It seems like some of the jokes are forced. The jokes about POTUS tweeting his orders or working with the Russians are quite obvious. Malkovich is great (which isn't a surprise). That guy can play any role and play it better than expected. I'll watch the rest of the season and hope it takes off...
Overall, I expected more out of Greg Daniels.
Turns out I might be a little gay. 89Hen 11/7/17
