Is there a “it’ll be a cold day in hell” option?

I'm no doctor, but wrapping yourself in 20 layers of Saran Wrap will provide more protection than goggles or a faceshield.
No, I won't be doing that either.

Will Groucho Marx glasses count? You would have the glasses protecting the eyes, the fake nose over your nose (you could insert replaceable filters over the nostril holes) and the mustache providing some cover over the mouth.

Viruses have an affinity for those parts of the body where the membrane between the exterior of the body and the bloodstream are thinnest.
This is one reason so many viruses are easily sexually transmitted. Coronaviruses and influenza viruses get into our systems through the lining in our airways, our mouths, and our eyes. This is why hand washing is important - because we touch our faces frequently and that is the pathway. If the virus is on your relatively thick skinned hands only, it will not absorb through that barrier. But the eyes are a very vulnerable gateway. Fauci is correct on this but I realize the bug issue was getting people serious about mask wearing.
Wearing eye protection is different from mask wearing, however. It only lessens your own likelihood of contracting the virus. Masks lessen the chances in both directions.
I’d say wearing a face shield or goggles is pretty much a personal choice. I don’t feel the need here in NoVa where infection rates are low relative to other parts of the country. But if I was living in south FL or certain parts of Texas right now I might consider it.

I heard about a guy that did that before seeing his psychiatriist.
Psychiatrist took one look at him and said: "I can clearly see your nuts".
Still tickets left for the second show, folks...

I joke about Groucho Marx glasses but I'm taking this seriously. Rather than wearing googles or face shields I just try to limit my exposure to and interactions with others. The risks of each interaction will increase if we start filling bars and stadiums.
