Heck, I'm amazed that you continue to think that things like voting patterns for all demographics won't also be changing and evolving over the same time. It's like you can't understand things with multiple variables. And that you can't learn from history, given that we've never had an extended time when we only had one party rule. But hey, keep laser focus on that one variable you can understand and just ignore the 98% of the rest of the picture. :coffee:

Ocasio-Cortez: 'Old way of politics' influences Manchin's thinking
“The things that he cites, like this, I think, romanticism of bipartisanship, is about an era of Republicans that simply do not exist anymore,” the progressive lawmaker added.
Is she so unaware that she doesn't realize that Manchin is a type of Democrat that is endangered by the pseudo-progressives and that her own movement is just as responsible for the death of bipartisanship?

The irony that most politicians were like Manchin as few as 30 years ago.

If he were your grandfather and this was happening at the dinner table it would be sad. That it's happening at a meeting of world leaders is pathetic and frightening.

But at least there are nice tweets.

Or does he even tweet? If he doesn't, I think he should. I would love to read what his stream of conscious sounds like.

Is this a woke movement easily dismissed or are we going through some hard and necessary changes?

Being listened to and eventual policy outcomes are not one in the same. See $15 minimum wage and how the stimulus package is being dragged down.

We could be heading much further left.

So because we could be "heading much further left", the leadership of the Democratic Party hasn't moved leftward in the last 30 years? That might be true in bizzaroworld.

FTR, I'm not buying the argument that a leftward movement is inevitable and the right thing for this country.

No shit?

There’s more to measuring where a party falls on the spectrum than simply Bernie having Biden’s ear (which I of course think is a good thing). Political outcomes vs rhetoric or negotiating starting points for example.

Plus it depends on which metrics you use from gay marriage to money in politics to economic stimulus to climate change to anti trust.

This ain't 'Murica, but still funny as hell.
I always make fun of these people eating their own, but now they're starting to eat themselves.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/greta-thunberg-inspired-climate-org-labels-itself-racist-and-disbands/ar-AAL4nUj?ocid=ientp
The Auckland, New Zealand, chapter of a climate organization inspired by activist Greta Thunberg disbanded itself on Saturday because it was a “racist,” “white-dominated space,” the group announced in a Facebook post on Saturday.
School Strike 4 Climate, a movement of student protests against global warming, began in the wake of Thunberg’s activism and ballooned into widespread student strikes in 2019. Around 20,000 New Zealand students went on strike in March 2019, organized by School Strike New Zealand, which describes itself as “the New Zealand movement of Greta Thunberg’s strikes in Europe.”
The Auckland branch of the group said on Saturday that it had agreed to dissolve.

“BIPOC communities are disproportionately affected by climate change, so the fight for climate justice should be led by their voices and needs, not Pākehā [white New Zealander] ones,” the group wrote on Facebook. “We are disbanding because, since 2019, SS4C AKL (as well as the wider national group, though we can’t speak on their behalf) has been a racist, white-dominated space.”

So they disband b/c either A) non-whites didn't join or; B) they didn't reach out / recruit enough non-whites?

Maybe the non-whites didn't realize they are being as impacted by climate change as the whites are saying they are. Very complicated stuff there. :coffee:

How can one simultaneously claim to be ‘post partisan’ AND think Bernie having ANYBODY’S ear is a good thing?

Seriously?

I don’t think it’s a good thing because Bernie is a Democratic Socialist or Democrat or whatever the hell he is. I like some of his ideas because I think they 1) work and 2) provide balance back toward the economic middle.

How does Bernie provide balance to move us back toward the economic middle? In many ways we're further left now then we've ever been. Moving back toward the economic middle means ignoring Bernie.

Hell, I’m still struggling with how you openly declare to be a socialist and actually win elections in this country

90% of what Bernie and the new vanguard of Maoists want to do would require large scale nationalization of most industries at the tip of a bayonet. Part of the shift can be blamed on our awful public education system.

I’ll never vote for that. And I’ll vote with my feet if it becomes mainstream
