Porn? No
Appropriate for a 6th grader? Debatable and should be up to a parent/guardian, not a teacher or administrator, to decide.

Serious question, when do we start talking about body parts in health class anymore? Back in my day, it was middle school (so 6th grade) when we got a legit health class added to the schedule so we did start talking about specific body parts then. We might've did something in 5th grade where they took the girls to one classroom and the boys to another room to talk about sex-specific things, although I'm foggy on that. Wonder what they do now. But to the above quote, once you get to middle school I don't think private parts are taboo for a health class, seems like that's when it should be discussed.

Middle school for me as well. As to your point, start with ‘no, this is not porn’. Then go from there.GannonFan wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 6:42 amSerious question, when do we start talking about body parts in health class anymore? Who should teach this topic? An art teacher or a health teacher?

Well, they're two different topics, no? So, it probably makes sense for the middle school biology teacher to teach biology (even though penises and vaginas are a part of biology) and the art history teacher should probably teach art history with some of the greatest works of art... even if there's a bit of boob or dick.
Biology is usually a requirement. Art history is usually an elective. If parents are afraid their kids see such controversial art as Michelangelo's David... don't let you kids take art history. Don't fuck up everyone else's experience.

They are different but related topics. When is it appropriate to teach these elements and who should make that decision?Skjellyfetti wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 8:19 amWell, they're two different topics, no? From my experience, sex ed is usually taught by a PE teacher as part of health education. I have taught elementary school PE & art and middle school PE & art. Health ed was an 8th grade subject but I could see it being beneficial earlier (teaching students about the effects of drugs, vaping etc.). For art, there is a plethora of eras, artists and styles to cover without getting into boobs & dicks before health education has occurred.
Art is usually an elective for a middle school. Tallahassee Classical School is K-10, not a typical middle school, so we don't know if art is an elective or required. Tallahassee Classical School 6th Grade Curriculum Map
Illiberals justifiably like to complain about people not respecting the rights and perspectives of BIPOC and LGBTQ+ people but think nothing of it when they disregard the rights and perspectives of religious people.

This week in Idaho.
Sand Point hospital closes the only maternity ward in the area due to fear of abortion laws. They can’t find doctors willing to risk working there.
And now…menstrual supplies are woke. Just send them out to spend the unclean and non-productive week in the shed!

We need a making America _________ again thread for what Republicans are doing and it isn’t great again.kalm wrote:This week in Idaho.

Is there a word or short phrase that describes the Republican war on tolerance, literature, etc. as well as woke describes the Democratic war on tradition?

"Control freak". They don't give a fuck about the kids, they want control of the educational system under the guise of a phony concern for the children. A concern which doesn't extend to the kids being slaughtered in their classrooms.UNI88 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 10:23 amWe need a making America _________ again thread for what Republicans are doing and it isn’t great again.kalm wrote:This week in Idaho.

What does it mean now, anyway? I have asked that question a dozen times and still haven't heard an answer.

Isn't SG a rural kid? Grew up watching the livestock rut and then practiced on the livestock when he was old enough to get a boner.kalm wrote: ↑Sun Mar 26, 2023 6:52 amSorry your periods and boners came early and that we weren’t getting married at age 13 and having kids.SeattleGriz wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 9:40 pm

At this point it is a war on agreeing to disagree across the board. Tit for tat is a dangerous game our politicians play.UNI88 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 10:23 amWe need a making America _________ again thread for what Republicans are doing and it isn’t great again.kalm wrote:This week in Idaho.

All true. The division and lost faith in institutions (conservatives and schools or liberals with LE as examples) are hallmarks of a Fourth Turning. That should subside a bit over the next few years.Winterborn wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 5:29 amAt this point it is a war on agreeing to disagree across the board. My guess is that it will not and it will pick up.

Until both sides and the media learn to be something other than dishonest grade school kids. This will slowly keep ratcheting up.
Emotions are the baser reactions that are being appealed to and by far the easier to manipulate.
