Ask the question the same way over and over and you’ll get the same answer. Add in caveats and the polling can drastically change. We’ve been over this before.

well it'll be managed by the government, so by definition.... :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

Or do we dare hope it's as successful as the government's:

War on drugs
War on poverty
War on guns
War on illegal immigration
War on (fill in the blank)….

All THOSE have gone so swimmingly....

Still better than what we currently have. The next few years will only further expose the issue with for-profit health insurance.

How much time have you spent lately within the healthcare system?

How can Biden let that repeat-biter assault dog of his around people? Also, remember what is said about dogs...there are no bad breeds, just bad owners.

Now I also hear one of his dogs shit in the People's House! How many people do they have helping Biden and he can't even make sure his dog is let out? If you can't even take care of a dog, how can you be expected to take care of America?!

I think being transgender is a disorder. But in Googling around I don't see anything to indicate that Rachel Levine (who is confused and thinks he is a she) should be characterized as a "failed public health officer."

If he were picked strictly because he thinks he is a she I would not agree with that. But I don't think he is a "failed public health officer" that is not qualified for the position.

Ganny, how well did Rachel Levine handle the pandemic for Pennsylvania?

Dr. Levine, Pennsylvania’s former health secretary signed an order on March 18, 2020, for the state’s nursing homes to accept patients who previously had or were hospitalized with the coronavirus. The decision led to more than 12,000 senior deaths, accounting for more than half of Pennsylvania’s total.

Days before Dr. Levine signed her nursing home directive, she took her 95-year-old mother out of a personal care home, after she was notified of residents nearby who tested positive for the coronavirus.

Moreover, reports from the state indicate that there’s been official undercounting of nursing home deaths — exactly the same crime New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has been accused of.

The only reason Levine got the Assist Sec health nomination from Biden is because of identity politics. If he wasn't a he pretending to be a she, he wouldn't have gotten the nomination.

Well, we did just have pharmaceutical giants, enriched by the admittedly crappy health care and health insurance industry we have in this country that allows these corporations to rake in significant revenue, speed to market in record time no less than 4 different COVID vaccines that are in the process of ending a global pandemic that would've dragged on for years and a lot more death without those vaccines. There's no doubt that we have a system that needs to be fixed, but I think we should acknowledge that letting smart people develop drugs and treatments for us, and then to profit from their work, is a benefit. Why do you hate medical advances? :coffee:

Let's go single payer without government intervention. Everyone buys their insurance on the market. Gives liberals single payer and keeps government out of insurance for conservatives. People become much better healthcare consumers. Win/win/win!

Well, we do have the lionshare of the medical innovations and medical-related Nobel prizes, the vast majority of the research happens here, and so on and so on. I'm not saying it's ideal, it's far from it, but you asked for a benefit and I gave it to you.

I'm confused. Doesnt' everyone ALREADY buy their insurance on the market? The advantage being if you're part of a medium/large employee group, you're given an advantage for a "group" rate, from a risk standpoint....

While imperfect, our systems drive innovation. Believing or pretending that there will not be unintended consequences from changing those systems is naive and foolish. That doesn't mean that we can't change those systems but we should do so with serious consideration. Just copying what another country does might not be the best course of action.

When I was in 3rd grade, I was playing with an elastic belt with a metal buckle and when I was stretching it, it came unbuckled and the metal buckle hit me in the eye, detaching my retina.

Fast forward 20 years and I'm a college student and decide for the first time I'm going to forego my student insurance and save some money. Well wouldn't you know that's when it was diagnosed during a physical before going to Airborne school. Didn't get to go to Airborne school and this field of vision loss is what kept me from getting my commission.

Anyway, my wife being from close to the Canadian border says that I should go to Regina and see if they can do the surgery. So, I went up to Canada and saw the "simple eye doctor" as Klam would say, and he said he could do the surgery, but couldn't get me in for six months and handed me a chart to track if my retina progressed further.

Total cost was about $3500 vs $15,000 in the states.

The 6 month wait was ok for your eye but would it be ok a heart condition or similar? There are aspects of the Canadian and British systems that are good and there are aspects of our system that are good. Neither is perfect.

Maybe health insurance would be more affordable if:
  • People were better consumers and questioned the need for certain treatments or prescriptions and went to their local clinic with a nurse practitioner rather than the doctor's office or worse the ER for basic illnesses/infections.
  • Drug companies didn't spend millions on advertising to push consumers to ask their doctors for specific medicines?
  • Drug companies had to charge the same price in the US that they charge in other countries.

It was a couple hundred bucks for the semester and working in a bike shop and as an Army Reservist to pay for my own way through college wasn't exactly raking in the dough. Not to mention I had carried it for every semester before that and had never used it. Bad timing.

Agreed. There are many instances of Canadians bringing their families across the border because they can't get services in Canada, especially NICU patients.

No shit. When I was between jobs years ago and didn't have insurance, my son needed surgery at Children's Hospital for what they thought was MRSA, but turned out to be a blood clot as a kid kicked his butt bone and he never cleared the internal bleeding AND my eardrum ruptured due to a bad infection. Cash pay and put it on my income taxes! Lol

I will say my college experience taught me a lesson though. I have always carried the highest level of insurance when I could and it has paid for itself. The wife's cancer bill was around 800k and I only had to pay around 6k. A good portion of that was due to the $200 hospital copay everytime she was admitted for chemo.

Let's go single payer without government intervention. Everyone buys their insurance on the market. Gives liberals single payer and keeps government out of insurance for conservatives. People become much better healthcare consumers. Win/win/win!
Hang on lemme check

Nope. Your plan is probably racists

Because minorities won’t be able to figure out how to navigate it or something
