Anyone else surprised that unemployment has remained as low as it has so far?

Not really. Large swaths of the economy are doing just fine (we're still hiring galore where I am). People still basically go to work, and plenty are able to work remotely. The pandemic has been brutal to certain segments of the economy, but not to much of it, and there's a lot of hope that with vaccines rolling out that the impacted parts of the economy will bounce back rather quickly.

Remember, it's only a measure of those actively looking for work. Labor Force Participation rate has been stuck in the low 61's since COVID hit. Prior to Covid it was 63.6.

Unemployment rate is 2X+ what it was pre-COVID. Long term unemployment rate is 5X what it was pre-COVID.
