Qanon

It doesn't look like this conspiracy is going to die so maybe it deserves its own thread ...

QAnon Now as Popular in U.S. as Some Major Religions, Poll Suggests
Those are the findings of a poll released Thursday by the Public Religion Research Institute and the Interfaith Youth Core, which found that:
  • ]15% of Americans say they think that the levers of power are controlled by a cabal of Satan-worshipping pedophiles, a core belief of QAnon supporters.
  • 20% of respondents said that they thought a biblical-scale storm would soon sweep away these evil elites and “restore the rightful leaders.”
  • Just 1 in 5 Republicans fully rejected the premises of the QAnon conspiracy theory. For Democrats, 58% were flat-out QAnon rejecters.
...
“Thinking about QAnon, if it were a religion, it would be as big as all white evangelical Protestants, or all white mainline Protestants,” he added. “So it lines up there with a major religious group.”
Who's more gullible? Pseudo-progressives who think big government is here to help and will make things better or Qanon believers?

I'd have to say pseudo progressives.

Everyone knows the people pulling the levers are out for their own interest, but constantly falling for the line that the government is there to help is just too much gullibility.

Although that is a pretty crazy list.

I would be easier to discredit whackos and conspiracy theorists if we didn't just recently have an example of institutions swearing that the science was settled (as if that's a thing, but that's a different thread) and that anything to the contrary was the work of conspiracy theorists, to only just now reverse that and admit that the conspiracy theorists could actually be correct. Unfortunately, these things are always tinged with politics so the truth is never really a primary focus.

MTG is just AOC's polar opposite and isn't nearly as embarrassing as Hank "Guam will tip over" Johnson. :ohno:

"Just 1 in 5 Republicans fully rejected the premises of the QAnon conspiracy theory. For Democrats, 58% were flat-out QAnon rejecters"
This wording is really suspicious.

I'm betting if you polled Democrats and leftists if Trump had a plan to nuke Hollywood if the electoral vote was certified most probably wouldn't.

Once again, I live in Trump country and there's plenty of stupidity around but I don't know a single person that takes Qanon seriously.

Government does make things better. Contemplate what life is like given the government we have in the United States then contemplate what life would be like if, tomorrow, all of a sudden government at all levels disappeared and we had about 330 million people trying to live without it. "Big" government? Sorry, but when you are dealing with a population of 330 million people you are going to have to have a big government. There may be debate about HOW big. But it's going to have to be big.

I am a Libertarian. Therefore I believe in a certain point at which the line should be drawn with government. But, if the question is government or no government, a situation in which there is government wins.

The Qanon thing is just insanity. Just complete nonsense. There's no comparison. The answer to the question of who is more gullible is obvious: One can legitimately debate how "big" government should be. Believing in something like the Qanon thing is just idiocy.
