I have a little story to share after you guys have given your initial answers to Rose’s tweet below…

Let them eat cake. It sure looks like 99% of stealing isn't to put food on the table.

What about the elected officials, supposed public servants, who leverage their positions to make millions? Obama, Bernie, etc.
Maybe Republicans are just more honest about their greed?

Re: Should stealing be ignored?
Depends on how they leverage it.
If someone makes money writing books, giving speeches, that is fine. If they inside trade, not fine.

Baloney. If the wealthy should pay more in taxes then elected officials should pay a 100% tax rate on income they receive as a result of the notoriety their elected positions have given them. They're there to serve the people not line their pockets. Otherwise they're just as greedy and corrupt as they allege capitalists are.

But theft is still wrong, correct? Whether it’s someone starving in America or stealing from public coffers?UNI88 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 10:53 amBaloney. I think kalm is asking this in good faith, but I also think it should be pointed out the real reason a lot of latte liberals have any interest in this is that so many shoplifting arrests are black people. If there was racial parity they wouldn't care. It's fine to talk about why people shoplift, but don't muddy the waters with garbage about systemic racism of the justice system.

Maybe it's time to change course then, and arrest white people and ignore theft by black people.Pwns wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 6:16 pm I think kalm is asking this in good faith, but I also think it should be pointed out the real reason a lot of latte liberals have any interest in this is that so many shoplifting arrests are black people. Re: Should stealing be ignored?
It’s the old Jean Valjean story but it mostly isn’t the case. There are shelters and food banks everywhere. Nobody in the US is dying of starvation. The person who responded to Rose was off base because it validated the original premise that there are Americans who must steal to avoid starvation. That’s bullshit.

I was going to make a Les Mis reference but figured only Gannonfan would get it.
I guess that makes you Javier....
There are countless food banks, private services, church groups, government-funded centers to provide meals, shelter, clothing, job training. I get that pride and shame keep a lot of people from going to those places - there is plenty of food for those that want it bad enough. Food Banks, for instance, aren't a solution though. Crisis Ministries exists as well to give meals, clothes and toys at Christmas.
Again - those services aren't a solution, although they are treated as such. There's help and food out there for anyone that wants it. You literally just show up. No questions asked. Unfortunately, it all gets abused. I've seen people pull up in Tahoe's with $5k in rims and paint jobs to get free food, clothes, toys, etc...

Re: Should stealing be ignored?
You can't escape it - there will always be those shitty people taking advantage of a situation. Before Thanksgiving my family and I helped box 44 Thanksgiving dinners for seniors in a poor area of town called Paradise (we went through a foundation with the area). You'd think we would know that all 44 seniors getting the meals would really need it. We dropped off meals at homes that clearly needed the help (and were super appreciative). We dropped off meals at homes that were clearly taking advantage of the system. New construction with nice cars, big ass TVs and PlayStation. It's sad - those people literally took food away from more deserving people.
But we learned - so now that we're going at it again for Christmas guess which addresses aren't on the list. Those greedy choads.

Here’s the background. And this is gonna warm yours and ‘88’s hearts!
I belong to a bunch of FB groups from bioluminescence of the PNW to the one I saw this post in which is Capitalists Attacking Socialism By Describing Capitalism…Again. Most of the time I lurk, and when I do engage it’s usually a couple of replies and brief back and forth…
Here was my response to the OP:
361 reactions and 100+ replies. A small sampling…Stealing is wrong. In the US, free food is as easy if not easier than stealing it. Zero consequences is enjoyed by kleptocrats. Still wrong. The OP meme leads to anarchy. People still starve in anarchy.

“why do you think stealing is difficult lmao. Is it because you're a fucking moron? Because the only people for whom its not the easiest thing in the world is a fucking moron”
“yes stealing is wrong most of the time. But that's if it's voluntary and done for selfish reasons. Society puts people in poverty and causes them to starve, so they steal out of desperation just to survive. In that case it is not wrong. Society is to blame for it. I hope you understand.”
“and while these people are waiting for us to do better, they can starve. Nice ”
“What free food? I'm asking for the impoverished population I serve”
“This guy hasn't seen cops keeping the starving from dumpster diving for things the store doesnt even want”
“Tell me you've never been on food stamps without telling me you've never been on food stamps.”
“this beyond foodstamps, this is someone who's never sweated about paying a bill before, cuz, like, you can, like, just, like, ask dad for like 10k or whatever.”
“1. Since when is free food “easy to come by” in the US?
2. Anarchy =/= chaos
3. Everyone should be able to eat without cost.”
“oh my god thank you so much for saying this! it's actually part of my job to connect people in need with resources and SO MANY are so harshly restricted, can you share some of the super easy ways to get free food? it would be a huge help!“
“just wondering, is demonizing people who have to steal to eat usually something that you would consider a sincere act and strategy of kindness?”
“Theft is a matter of subjective ephemeral legality, not morality.
The owner class hides behind the system to steal from the worker at every opportunity - morally, how can it be wrong to steal back some of that value?

Also, we have laws and free roaming capitalism but millions of people are starving currently so people already don't have f'cking food.”

You can't engage with those kind of people b/c there is no possibility of civil discourse (unlike here where even I and BDK can agree on things). Their myopic view is the only one that matters. They have all the answers and for the life of them can't understand why nobody else knows what they know.

That sounds like my local listserv.
Woman posted a nice story about her paying for a cop's lunch at a local place and the restaurant gave her half price on her and the cops, so basically free. You should have seen some of the woke libs heads explode.

Re: Should stealing be ignored?
Why do people get upset over someone showing appreciation?
Why can't we appreciate the gesture even if we disagree with someone's politics?
The lack of respect and civil discourse in this country is a bigger problem than anything that the alt-right and ctrl-left think is wrong.

It was to whom the appreciation was shown that was the problem. And a lot of folks started by saying "Not to be cynical...." I pointed out that there is a name for folks who say that.UNI88 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 07, 2021 1:44 pmWhy do people get upset over someone showing appreciation?
