For many years, I’ve admired Hillsdale College. It refuses to take a dime of government money; it has a commitment to classical liberal education, especially in the area of what we used to call”civics”; and its publications (Imprimis ) and public seminars (Hillsdale Hostels) are first-rate. Conservative students are comfortable there, and they’re probably in the majority. We have given money to Hillsdale for a number of years, but we’re reconsidering that. Over the past couple of years, Hillsdale has become more overtly political, in a “Trumpy” direction. Its longtime President, a guy named Larry Arnn, seems to be joined at the hip with Trump. Maybe this trend will change when Arnn steps down, but it’s not a good development.
