So Brian Deese, the NEC Director, was just on CNBC and said:
"If you think of a typical family's budget, 60% of that budget is in healthcare, child care, prescription drugs, and transportation."
Does that seem odd to anyone other than me? Discuss.

60% of that is $4,257 so it's possible if they have 2 car payments (healthcare - $1,000, childcare - $1,500, transportation - $1,600)Average monthly expenses for a family of 4: $7,095, or $85,139 annually.

- $1,000 for family healthcare - yes. Marketplace healthcare is probably around a $1,000/month and workplace healthcare is probably half that, split the difference and add in deductibles & co-pays and a $1,000 is reasonable.
- $1,500 for childcare - yes for 2 toddlers (and could be $2,000+ depending on location) but should drop when kids start all-day school. Some of the posters with younger children would have a better idea of average costs for toddlers and after full-time school starts.
- $1,600 for transportation - no, but my perspective is based on my ex and I driving our cars for longer so that we only had 1 car payment at a time. A family that is struggling to get by shouldn't be trading in their cars every 3-5 years.

As I said, having kids you can’t afford, driving cars you can’t afford…..choice. Yet we’re the bad guys.UNI88 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 4:37 pmYes and no.

I waited until i was 33 to have a child. Why? Because we weren’t financially prepared before that.
I drove 10 year old cars until I was 29. Why? Because I didn’t want to spend 25% of my disposable income on a vehicle. A choice.
I joined the military and served 23 years so i could get a college degree without having $$$$ of student loan debt hanging over my head for half my life. A choice.
It’s really not that complicated, but we’re made out to be evil because we made the right choices.
