Is it time for an immigration reality check?

Just something I've been thinking about after all the teeth gnashing over the popularity of Marine Le Pen's party in France.

This is a graphic I saw on Twitter showing that right-wing populist parties get more support in European countries that have more Muslim immigration.
Spoiler: show

Gotta be honest, I think we're deluding ourselves thinking we can rescue and assimilate most people from these developing countries, and there's also the reality that people generally want to live in communities where they feel like they fit in and not in places full of people they wouldn't fit in with even if they spoke their foreign language.

The way I see it we (meaning the West as a whole) have 3 options:
1. Continue to allow mass immigration and allow right-wing populism to get more powerful every year.
2. Shut the borders down and just let these people in these countries rot.
3. Raise taxes on western elites and use them to build up the most destitute countries in the world.

1 is IMO the worst option without a doubt and is almost like having the worst of both worlds. 3 could be said to be the best one but will make you unpopular on both the political left and right. The bottom line is, though, that economic intervention is something proven to work (i.e the Marshall Plan) while I'd argue multiculturalism has no real history of working.

And yes, I understand Muslim immigrants in the US are generally much more educated than the average American, but that's not the case for Muslims in Europe or people from Mexico and Central America in the US. It's not hard to assimilate a someone from Saudi Arabia with a Materials Science Phd, but regular people from developing countries are another story.

Europe is going to be unrecognizable and a crap show in 50 years. Immigrant populations and cultures are so isolated and marginalized in those countries, and are the only populations most of the time that are growing, that there will be upheaval galore in the next 50 years. Europe has almost always struggled on how to incorporate immigrant cultures into their own and this scramble to the far right is just a last ditch, but doomed attempt to turn the tide. As much as we rail about our own immigration woes (and right now it's that we have next to no control over immigration coming in from the Mexican border), but our culture has been far more malleable and able to absorb immigration.

If being a better Rep means skimming campaign funds to pay your future husband nearly a million dollars then yes has done a better job than most Republicans.

...the immigrant communities can organise to consolidate their members, to agitate and campaign against their fellow citizens, and to overawe and dominate the rest with the legal weapons which the ignorant and the ill-informed have provided. As I look ahead, I am filled with foreboding; like the Roman, I seem to see the River Tiber foaming with much blood...

Yep. Shit's gonna get real in our lifetimes. The poor and middle/working class will bear the brunt of the upheaval that is coming. The unwillingness to enforce laws in Donk controlled areas will only speed the process up.
