Yeah this is new for America...
a guy who is not terrified of other leaders and does not feel the need to threaten them on the world stage...
It's going to be tough to get over... for many people, the fact that our new leader is fearless yet kind

The highest expressions of confidence

These are good times, fun to watch...

(This just in Hugo Chavez is a dictator pretending to be a socialist)

I like the fact that Obama isn't afraid to talk to other leaders

(And yes, Chavez is a dictator).

Let's see if I get this...

If you don't support a President, and this President meets with a "dictator", then that's evil...(I seem to recall some comments about when Bush met with the Saudi king that did not indicate you were supportive)

But if a President you do support meets with a dictator, that's "The highest expression of confidence"...

I'm going to have to think about that one a little longer...

Close... (very close) ... But
In spirit I'm not against any government official meeting with any other government official

I'll need to review my comments regarding Bush and The House of Saud...
I believe I was criticizing a posters comments more than the visit by Bush but I am susceptible hypocrisy in all it's forms: Because I'm so skilled at seeing it in others...

I a very supportive of this. It's about time we talked to any and all governments. It is easier to work with them and they are more likely to work with us when this happens.

Next stop Cuba. About freaking time.

If you want my opinion, and I'm sure you don't, the sheiks of Saudi Arabia are far worse than Chavez. We have sold our soul for oil in the middle east and yet, most terrorism is thought out, planned out in SA.

15 of 19 9/11 terrorists were from SA and yet, we did NOTHING to that nation. Hmmm.....................

Its because we care about oil and money. Plus they were "trained" in Afghanistan. Afghanistan is "easy" to beat and had nothing to offer the US as far as oil. We did create a huge heroin poppy exporter though.

Thats why these wars are bullshit. We pick "easy" targets to provide closure to the US citizens.

The same argument could be made for fighting in Iraq. We are told we are liberating the Iraqi people from an evil dictator yet there is a more dangerous one in Darfur we are ignoring. No oil.

Bingos and zingos abound in these posts. Right on, for the most part. I for one am refreshed and relieved that the world no longer has to see our little texas tin god standing at the podium saying incredibly ignorant shit like "yourn either fur us or again us" "wanted dead or alive" "bring it" "fool me once or twice means aw fuck it" etc

I don't care who Obama talks with, at least I know he understands English.

If Afghanistan were "Easy to beat" we still wouldn't be there. Besides, major empires have never conquered the area.

Roman EMpire..FAILED
Alexander the Great..FAILED

Regardless, there is nothing wrong with diplomacy. Keep your enemies closer. Let them man imporve relations with hostile countries and improve our image.

Conks - black and white mentality- hate em an ignore em. Hide your head in the sand and hope that someday things will magically change for the better. Ego maniacs. Always have to look like the tough guy. They dont realize it's 2009, not 1951.

Obama - Smart move. Has done more foreign relations good in 3 months than all of W's miserable years.

Hogan - Quit embarrassing yourself with these posts.

I have always felt we should talk to countries we don't like that don't like us. If you refuse to talk to them, you only leave a military option, or hurting your own populace. I don't understand the "with us or against us" mentality. Just because we meet with a leader who is a dictator or a socialist doesn't mean we'll turn into a socialist county. Hell, GWB met with "democratically elected leaders" (democratically being a loose term) and we became more "socialist" under his watch than any previous president (save maybe FDR).

Give me a break, I'm glad to see Obama do this. Just like, during the campaign, I was glad to hear him say he would meet with Iran as well.
