The War on Free Speech could be under the Culture Wars thread, but really deserves a thread of its own.
In Europe UK arresting people over Facebook posts and now the arrest of the Telegram founder is a disturbing trend that’s coming coming to the US:

The lefties wont care.
Just like the Trump Russia stuff was made up bullshit they still parrot that as fact. They interfered with an election and they dont care. That who they are.

The trump russia stuff was not made up bullshit.
- russia regularly interferes in US and other elections.
- There were connections between donald's campaign and russia.
A lack of convictions doesn't mean nothing happened. It could mean that there just wasn't enough evidence or what happened wasn't serious enough to merit a conviction.
It's very similar to many of the allegations against hunter biden. There is enough stink there to believe something happened but not enough evidence to convict.

I didn't realize drug trafficking and child porn fell under free speech.
Telegram knows its platform is being used for illicit stuff and do nothing about it under the guise of "free speech." I'm ok with this arrest. When you're not even trying to remove/limit illegal content, then don't be surprised when the law catches up to you.
We arrest people for knowing their friend diddled a kid and not reporting it; why is this any different?

The manager goes, “well it’s not problem they are distributing child porn in my store, as long as I have nothing to do with it. And all you other employees, it’s not your problem too…please continue with your job.”
Now imagine they’ve known for years. The law finally finds out about the ring AND that the manager knew about it for years. What should they do?
This is the scenario with Telegram.
Now imagine yourself as manager…how do YOU handle it?

It's none of my business. Leave it to the authorities I dint do anything wrong so why should I be attacked by cops?
