At a time when the emphasis needs to be placed on increasing private sector jobs in the manufacturing and construction industries, recent statistics show the manufacturing and construction industries have the highest unemployment figures. Further, due to the gender balance in these male dominant industries, those same figures reveal that men have born the brunt of 80% of all job losses during this recession.

Men bear the brunt of US jobs lost

The US recession has opened up the biggest gap between male and female unemployment rates since records began in 1948, as men bear the brunt of the economy’s contraction.

Men have lost almost 80 per cent of the 5.1m jobs that have gone in the US since the recession started, pushing the male unemployment rate to 8.8 per cent. The female jobless rate has hit 7 per cent.

This is a dramatic reversal of the trend over the past few years, where the rates of male and female unemployment barely differed, at about 5 per cent. It also means that women could soon overtake men as the majority of the US labour force.
Many Hires Needed for Budget Goals
Tens of Thousands Could Be Added to Federal Payroll

President Obama's budget is so ambitious, with vast new spending on health care, energy independence, education and services for veterans, that experts say he probably will need to hire tens of thousands of new federal government workers to realize his goals.

The $3.6 trillion plan released last week proposes spending billions to begin initiatives and implement existing programs, and given Obama's insistence that he would scale back the use of private-sector contractors, his priorities could reverse a generational decline in the size of the government workforce.

Exactly how many new workers would be needed remains unclear -- one independent estimate was 100,000, while the conservative Heritage Foundation said it is likely to be closer to a quarter-million.

Administration officials said they cannot determine overall hiring projections until the president's full budget is released this spring, but acknowledged that significant new hiring will occur.
Get a clue, folks. :x

Increased government DECREASES national productivity and shrinks our already collapsed GDP!!

Speaking of clueless...

Do your homework, Cap'n.

Government jobs never go away, and do not "create" new, permanent (not funded by govt. contracts) jobs in the manufacturing and construction industries.

Hey, Rush, you do your homework. Your people got us into this mess and we will need bodies to help get us out. Then, after we've cleaned up this Conktastrophe, you can e-mail your legislator about the continued status of those positions.

Now, as I said, sit down, shut up, you had your turn, 1980 to 2009, setting up the current malaise and you guys shit the bed.
