House Republicans representing large shares of Medicaid, SNAP beneficiaries face tough budget test
There are a handful of House Republicans who represent parts of the country where sizable shares of the populations receive government assistance from Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, according to an NBC News analysis of the most recently available Census Bureau data.
...
“There’s a little bit of frustration among those of us who do have large Medicaid populations that we have not been engaged [by leadership] as much as some of the members of the Freedom Caucus in this process,” Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., told NBC News.
...
Valadao, who represents a key swing seat for Republicans that could determine control of the House in 2026, has been one of the loudest voices in the House GOP warning against potential cuts to Medicaid and SNAP.

President Trump weighs in on Senate primary between two GOP heavyweights in major red state
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate while speaking on Fox News last week. Paxton, a conservative firebrand and outspoken supporter of Trump, is seeking to replace incumbent Sen. John Cornyn, an influential member of the GOP who previously served as the Party’s Senate whip and has held the seat since 2002.

With both Paxton and Cornyn being considered leading members of the Republican Party, the race promises to be particularly messy.

Sen. Chris Murphy's 'emergency' message about Trump is connecting with Democratic voters
Murphy and Rep. Maxwell Frost, D-Fla., have been staging events in Republican congressional districts in recent weeks, trolling GOP lawmakers such as Rep. Richard Hudson, who represents the area they visited Thursday. Hudson, the chairman of the House GOP campaign arm, has discouraged Republicans from holding town halls, so Murphy and Frost decided to hold one on his home turf in North Carolina.

“We are doing the job that these Republican congressmen and senators won’t do,” Murphy told the hyped-up crowd of mostly older voters at the event, while acknowledging that Democrats need to do more to soothe their anxiety and counter President Donald Trump. “I want to make sure that everywhere, in every corner of this country, people are willing to stand up and fight.”
...
“I mean, I’m not Bernie Sanders,” Murphy said in an interview after the event in Saxapahaw. “I’m not going to draw 70,000 people. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t still have an obligation to try to go out and support a national mobilization.”
...
He said he does not want to “reinvent the wheel” with his fundraising haul, but he does not want to sit on it, either. Murphy said he plans to help organizations mobilize voters before the 2026 midterm elections and also put pressure on Republicans as they try to push tax and spending cuts through Congress.

“The only way that history tells us that you stop an elected leader from converting a country away from democracy is mass mobilization,” he said.

"Our party has made mistakes, and if we don’t learn from those mistakes," Murphy said, “we're cooked.”

Republicans thought they'd pad their Senate majority. The map is getting tougher.
Jay Williams, an Alpharetta, Georgia-based GOP strategist, said his party could face a further darkening outlook.

“I think ultimately it's going to come down to the economy and at that time, and how scared Republicans are,” Williams said. “If things economically are going well, you'll get to the social issues [playing more a deciding factor]. If things are really bad economically, I think it's gonna be tough for Republicans. Like, I don't know how you slice it any other way.”

I should be a strategist and get paid. Really, if the economy is bad, that will be a problem. If the economy isn't, it won't be. In other news, water is still wet. :o

That's it in a nutshell but there's a little more to it in the article itself.

It would be rich if pontius paxton primaries Cornyn and then loses in the general election.

Last rural Democrat in Kentucky senate leaves party, growing GOP supermajority

Key Points
AI Assisted Summary
*Kentucky state Sen. Robin Webb switched her party affiliation from Democrat to Republican.

*Webb cited the Democratic Party's leftward shift and focus on policies that harm her rural constituents as reasons for the switch.

*Webb's switch strengthens the Republican supermajority in the Kentucky Senate, leaving only six Democratic senators, all from Louisville or Lexington.

Trump won KY 64.5-34. Question is how in the heck did Beshear win election, and re election?

Because he's a good candidate. Even in these polarizing times, it is possible for a candidate to be able to reach across the aisle and be a person who can work with everyone. They're few and far between, but they exist.

Lol the same woman who got trounced by Nancy Mace by 14 points in a SC House race in 2022 (a down year for conks). That’s a seat that donks held in 2018, Mace won in 2020 by less than 1 point. Does the college professor at MUSC Andrews even win the donk primary? There are a couple other candidates.

Regardless, the Cook Political Report rates Graham’s seat (he won by 10 points in 2020) as Solid Red.
