By XANA O'NEILL
Updated 10:08 AM EDT, Thu, Apr 30, 2009

Vice president Joe Biden said today he would tell his family members not to use subways in the U.S. and implied schools should be shuttered as the swine flu outbreak spread to 11 states and forced school closures amid confirmation of the first U.S. death.
Biden Would Avoid Subways, Planes During Flu Outbreak
"I wouldn't go anywhere in confined places now," Biden said when asked whether he would advise family members to use public transportation.
WooHoo!!!! Get to dust off the "grocery getter".

Biden could create a beneficial "confined place" if he'd shut his GD mouth for 5 minutes. What a maroon.

The White House is actually a fairly small building with many confined areas. Maybe Obama and Biden should avoid going there for awhile.

The Senate was a pretty confined place - guess that explains why McCain, Clinton, and Obama are the picture of health over the last couple of years.

In this case as with in every case, Republican cast aways should always do exactly the opposite of what the Democrats are saying.

wow now we are attacking Biden for making a suggestion that is probably wise to make? Someone wanted me to go to Manhattan the other day and I laughed at them.... as crowded as NYC subways are I aint going near the subway until this swine flu thing is past.

Thank god for Biden...
without him we'd have a serious lack of political buffoonery or what I like to call: "entertainment"

Agree with UNH on this one. Maybe Windbag could have said it better but it's currently safer for those who don't need to travel to stay off of the subways and safer for those that do need to use them if there are fewer people on them.

keep in mind... this was a guy who rode the train to DC from DE EVERY SINGLE DAY.
i agree with 88... he could have probably said it more delicately... but that's not Biden's way.

Don't take public transportation, get in your car where you have a much better chance of dying in an accident that being killed by the flu.
I understand the concern. but can someone tell me how many people in this country die every year from whatever we call the regular flu? This is not a political statement simply curiousity.

There has been what, one death, in America? That kid wasn't even American. He was Mexican that was brought into America, probably post infection.

the truly under reported number in all this hysteria is right there... contrasted with one death of a mexican citizen in brownsville...

I don't want to say it isn't something to worry about and that we shouldn't try to prevent it from spreading but we seem to get out of whack about this stuff. PArt of it is the media. I mean 36,000 people a year from plain old everyday influenza is not a small number

36,000 people is only about 1300 people short of Cedar Falls. That is a massive number.

Only thing to worry about is who is going to mow your lawn?
Cut the funding on the stupid flu and build some more missiles instead.

Which is exactly what all the paranoia is simply crazy...
If you would travel on the Metro/subway/plane/bus during seasonal flu season...why not now???
Take precautions like the President said last night...but STOP THE PARANOIA!!!!!!!!
