AUGUSTA, Maine -- Maine's governor has signed a bill making the state the fifth to allow gay marriage.

Gov. John Baldacci signed the legislation shortly after the Maine legislature passed it Wednesday.

New Hampshire legislators are also poised to send a gay marriage bill to their governor. He has not indicated whether he'll sign it.

If gay marriage becomes law in New Hampshire, Rhode Island would be the sole holdout in New England.

I could be wrong, but I do think CA is the most liberal state in the nation. If they can vote and ban gay marriage, I think ME will as well.

I bet you see same sex bills go to a full vote in November and they will all ban it.

it isnt going to vote in November, some republicans tried to put an amendment on the bill to have a referandum vote but the amendment was defeated.

Great news!

And TTBF - Same-sex marriage has been legal for several years in CT.

Voters rejected an attempt to overturn it in November by a 60-40% margin

In 2005 Connecticut passed a civil unions bill.

On October 10, 2008 the SCOC ruled that the state must allow same sex marriage.

On April 23, 2009 the Connecticut legislature voted to rewrite marriage laws to include same sex marriages as ordered by the court.
