That doesn't sound like any Republican I know.

Yeah, sure Powell. I listen to Limbaugh when I am in the car, but by no stretch of the imagination do I agree with everything he says that is for sure.

But if it were Powell and Rush, Rush with my campaign contributions. The only thing conservative about Powell is his stance on the military.

Actually, I think he IS right, but that doesn't make IT right. Americans are, as a group, relatively weak. The majority now WANT someone else to take care of them. The take-care-of-yourself-make-your-own-way-in-life-getting-exactly-what-you-earn-work-hard-and-make-a-decent-wage American is GONE GONE GONE. The majority of Americans want MORE government, taking from those who DO have, and redistributing to those who do NOT, but don't want to actually work for it any more. Because the majority of Americans believe they're ENTITLED to it. Entitled to someone ELSES wealth, something they have done NOTHING to earn. Entitled to free healthcare. Entitled to unlimited unemployment benefits. Entitled to be paid to have babies. Paid NOT to grow crops. Rewarded for laziness. THAT'S the Americans Powell is talking about, and he's absolutely right---there ARE more of them now than ever before. How can there NOT be, with the sickening growth of entitlement programs and Americans' entitlement mentality over the past 40 years?

We've started down the slippery slope where the number of people thinking like that will grow and grow and grow. Eventually the demise of America (as Cappy keeps predicting) WILL happen, because we won't have the will (or the votes) as a country to do what it takes to do a course correction. We're well on our way to a "nanny" state, and the pace is accelerating. This country was built on capitalism and free markets, and for the past 50 years (accelerated by the New Deal) we've chipped away at that concept until there's not much to discern us from Russia or China except the language we speak. The only difference is we didn't have a bloody revolution to kick-start the process, it's been done more slowly and insidiously.

The more government "nannys" people, the more they want to be nanny'ed, and the weaker we become as a society. Snorting coke, smoking dope, collecting welfare, no personal drive, just doing what our government tells us to do. Somehow, I don't think that's what the founding fathers had in mind.
