It is becoming more and more evident on a daily basis.
Pelosi/Reid were lied to, but they also had inklings of what was going on, and failed to act.
Now they are covering their hides.
I am ready to start a new party - who's with me???

The Common Sense Party: free economy, strong but noninterventionist defense, rule of law, and libertarian on social issues. Works for me!

Cap'n Cat dash of perspective:
In defense of most politicians, might I point out your gross generalization, Juan? There are very, very good people in politics and the majoirty of them are honest and hard working folks.
What we're seeing is the living embodiment of the 90/10 principle. Been going on since the earliest times.

Will someone be able to write another "Profiles In Courage" in 20 or 30 years? Or could someone do it now with stories of people from the last 54 years?

Nice. I like that. Reason #2 you made the "Sharpest" list, Daner.

How about at least agreeing to make it a State's rights issue?

Very true. How about getting the federal government out of the marriage business alltogether.
What federal rights are associated with marriage:
1. Taxes (Estate and Income)
2. HIPPA
3. Medicaid
4. Social security
5. Spousal privilege in court cases
Anything else?

Throw in everything not specically delegated to the federal government and I'm in also.

Until it starts interfering with campaign contributions or getting re-elected in general.
Or losing their precious power positions or chairmanships.
Or until they have to actually take a position on certain issues that might offend their constituents
Or until they have held their finger in the air for a sufficient time to determine the direction the wind is blowing
Any one want to add to the list.

I think we are now beginning to understand why third parties don't last long in this country.
A Very good lesson, Thanks Jon

PS, there is a difference in being lied to and not being told the truth.
Ask TTBison, as a political operative he can 'splain

You're exaggerating the number of people caught up in this, OF. Again, the great majority aren't involved in the shit you outline.

Absolutely under NO circumstances LOBBYISTS are FORBIDDEN. They are just like CEOs, greedy and power hungry. Dispicable swine.

So let's see the poster most likely to make a joke about thread topics, now decides jokes about politicians doing what polticians do naturally should be rebuffed.
And by the way, there is probably only 10% of politicians on a national level that aren't involved in what I outlined. I heard on NPR today the Chucky boy Schumer from NY may now be deciding that same sex marriage is probably a good thing. I wonder which finger he held in the air to make that decision.

PS That is just one example.

Jon,
what could they do? even if they did know, and know full well... what could they have done? they didn't have the majority until '07 (so they couldn't even call hearings before then)... and in 07-08... they still didn't have the votes to impeach... the white house hid all of this stuff under the guise of "executive privilege" and shut down all investigations... they were downing the football for almost two years on the dems... and there was little recourse for pursuing any of it.
i worked for a fairly senior dem in 07 - and the thing that was impressed upon me was that while they were doing stuff that could and should have gotten them impeached, not a single Republican could be counted on to cross the line and take the vote to do so.
as for the crack about "all politicians" i'm tired of it... it's the province of lazy minds... most members of congress are pretty decent people making incredibly hard decisions.
it's funny, there was a comment above about how "they won't make a hard vote, or they have their finger in the wind" and then... if they make the hard decision the bitching about "not representing their constituents" gets rolling... so which do you want?... because you can't have both.
