With the White House indicating that President Obama is working quickly to pick a replacement for retiring Supreme Court Justice David Souter, conservatives are turning the spotlight on the backgrounds of three likely front-runners: Solicitor General Elena Kagan, U.S. Appeals Court Judge Sonia Sotomayor, and U.S. Appeals Court Judge Diane Wood. "These are the three that we see as most likely," said Wendy Long of the Judicial Confirmation Network. In a conference call to supporters today, she and JCN boss Gary Marx unveiled a new website, ObamasFrontRunners.com, that features biographical videos on all three. Each, says Long, is a liberal who will apply "empathy" and "personal feelings" to her court decisions.

on a side note, hopefully none of the three were ever married or were in any way had any connection to TMan so we don't get an epic post on how un-qualified they are.....

I don't LONG for anything, Jon. I just wish we could pick the most qualified PERSON, regardless of race, creed or national origin or sexual orientation. Period. But that time is long gone. Now, we must be politically correct, pander to special interest groups, and pick a woman, or a black man, or a latino, etc., etc., etc....pure BS.

Uh, wrong again Z. First, you are in no position to ascertain who is, or is not qualified or the best.
These are important appointments and race/gender should be considered.
Z, it aint all black and white. Conk lizardbrain.

I still think it will be Sotomayor: judicial experience, solid academic creds, first Hispanic Justice, and relatively young.

my guess is the vetting is most aggressive on Sotomayor... for that very same rationale
as for what was said earlier... i know... a supreme court that looks even a little like america scares the shit out of you z, but as a white, Christian, hetero, male... i'm not too worried about a couple people who don't look like me being placed on the Court impeding my success given all of my other advantages.

I've never proclaimed that I'm in a position to ascertain who is best qualified for the position. I just don't get why we HAVE to pick the best qualified person with a VAGINA (yup, I said it, Ralph!). Would you RATHER have a LESS qualified person, just because she has a vagina, over a more qualified person who happens to be a white male?
Politically Correct mushmouth.

Not necessarily Z. All I'm saying is the vagina or skin color or culture is a qualification in an of itself. Does it override experience or technical intelligence? Not necessarily...
A good example is the abortion debate, which has cost our country dearly in lost productivity on the part of our representatives and has demeaned our political system. I want this issue done with. I believe a woman naturally brings to the table a valuable perspective.
