Maybe a little too liberal for my taste, but there's way worse out there.

She's pretty much a shoo-in. Was originally appointed to the bench by George H.W. Bush, and has never given any indication of an activisit outlook. Of course, that can change when a judge reaches the Supreme Court, but there is nothing in her history which suggests that she has that kind of agenda.

If conservatives complain, they should be concered about who might otherwise be selected.

Unless there is some personal skelton in the closet ....

If nothing else she'll make it interesting when they do finally allow cameras in SCOTUS. Think of her as the complete opposite on the bench, personality-wise at least, from Justice Thomas. Thomas hasn't asked a question in oral argument in over three years and before than his questions can be counted on one hand.

Nailed it! :D

As I said on the AGS thread, she'll be confirmed: the only question is how many "no" votes she gets. I'm guessing 15-20. Roberts had 22, and Alito was over 40.

Are you ok with her? Any complaints?

I worked on a case that was before her back when she was a District Court judge and appeared before her a number of times. She was demanding but fair ... asked some really hard questions ... and don't ever fall behind in discovery, she wanted her cases to move.

Why would a filibuster be appropriate here? You filibuster her and Obama will appoint someone more liberal. Makes no sense to filibuster her. She'll move the court towards the center from where it is now. Its political suicide for the GOP to filibuster.

I have no problem with her. I'm guessing that she'll get a fair number of "no" votes because of the political polarization that has affected the judicial nomination process ever since Bork.

Question: If the Republican Party goes after Sotomayor heavily and nastily, do they risk losing the Hispanic vote for a long time?

as for Sotomayer... she's likely not the last pick Obama will get, and yes, if the GOPers try to block this reasonable nominee... he'll go to the left for the next pick, and yes, trying to block her will alienate already on their way out the door with the GOP hispanics.

If the GOP blocks her, it will screw them over. they'd be wise to question her, but not to make a fuss over it.

That's true and I havn't heard anything to bad about her so far.
