I never said anything resembling this. To whom is it addressed?danefan wrote:This probably stems from another theological debate thread (which no one but Joe, D1B, Grizza and Andy reads), but isn't that a more appropriate question to ask to an actual Jew?
Are you saying that? Or are you saying that's what I have said? Because you can search high and low, and you will never find any post where I said that.Cap'n Cat wrote:All going to Hell, eh, Joe, for not being saved by this Christ slacker?

Yup, I know.danefan wrote:JoltinJoe wrote:

I'm confused now.
Joe, I was saying that the question of why the Jews don't believe that jesus is the son of god is probably a question that should be asked to a Jew, not to a Catholic.
I wasn't referring to anything you said.

It amazes me how much you guys presume to speak for me. I guess it helps to keep all religious in a single box, so that your one stock answer fits all.
You lose the bet. I don't think that.Cap'n Cat wrote:Privately, though, you believe that they are going to Hell. I don't know, but, based on your rhetoric, that's what I will bet on.
OK, I missed the boat on this thread....I'm bowing out for sake of further confusion.JoltinJoe wrote:Yup, I know.danefan wrote:

Did you go to catholic grade/high schools?JoltinJoe wrote:You lose the bet. I don't think that.Cap'n Cat wrote:Privately, though, you believe that they are going to Hell. I don't know, but, based on your rhetoric, that's what I will bet on.
Seriously, you need to ignore what Sr. Mary Judgmental told you in Fourth Grade and re-discover Catholicism. I think you'd be surprised about what Catholicism actually instructs. Maybe you would still not believe, but I think you'd be surprised.
One of the reasons I am attracted to Catholicism is that it explicitly instructs that people of all faith and belief, and people of no faith and belief, are being saved. I bet you never heard that in grammar school. Neither did I.
Both, but I don't think I was ever really Catholic until college.dbackjon wrote:Did you go to catholic grade/high schools?JoltinJoe wrote:

So you were confirmed, but it took a Jesuit to make you really Catholic?JoltinJoe wrote:Both, but I don't think I was ever really Catholic until college.dbackjon wrote:

And for some reason, no matter how many times the Pope reaffirms this, it doesn't make the papers. But if so low-ranking Vatican prelate says something bad about condoms, it's a headline here in the US.
The Jesuits were great; but honestly, believe it or not, the professor who really kicked me into this direction was a Protestant theolgian who had studied the reformation period under Roland Bainton at Yale. I was surprised and impressed at the subtlety by the theology which was re-stated by Catholic Church during the counter-reformation, even as the Church itself was under the leadership of rogues at that time. It was the first time I realized that the word of God prevails without regard to who the heads of the Church may be, and that no matter how flawed any indiviudal leader might be, the Church ultimately was greater than that.dbackjon wrote:So you were confirmed, but it took a Jesuit to make you really Catholic?JoltinJoe wrote:

not gonna lie, that's a solid double to the gap...JoltinJoe wrote:You lose the bet. I don't think that.Cap'n Cat wrote:Privately, though, you believe that they are going to Hell. I don't know, but, based on your rhetoric, that's what I will bet on.

That being said, no house of worship that I know of goes out of their way to make visitors, and folks of other religious persuasions uncomfortable like the Catholics. Lots of lovely good people are members for sure, and I love them as much as anybody I can think of, but that's the way it seems to me. I have been to many Mormon funerals as well, but again, funeral mass takes the cake in my opinion.
This is most likely a flat out fabrication or at the very least, a gross exaggeration. Jolt's purpose here is to add credibility to his dogma by claiming ultimate acceptance during adult years.JoltinJoe wrote:Both, but I don't think I was ever really Catholic until college.dbackjon wrote:

Joe, what did the protestant theologian have to say about Jews not getting the memo that one of them saved the world and could get them a ticket into heaven if they behave?JoltinJoe wrote:The Jesuits were great; but honestly, believe it or not, the professor who really kicked me into this direction was a Protestant theolgian who had studied the reformation period under Roland Bainton at Yale. Bullshit. And the truth is..
Jolt, like 99.999999% of catholics grew up in the church and had the **** forced upon him by well meaning but uttlerly clueless parents or a violent father and utterly scared shitless mother. Jolt's countless hours of studying fairy tales, confessing sins, lanquishing in church or the countless church related fuctions intentionally designed to ensure you have no life outside church (cult) and telling lies to his children could have been spent actually improving mankind and even perhaps gaining refined social skills, or achieving a better awareness of his obvious personality disorder - all key things that would have relieved him of his current abyss of lonliness, social awkwardness and self-loathing, which is why he needs religion in the first place.
