.....please say a silent prayer for Janesville and Kenosha, WI.

The General Motors plant in Janesville and the Chrysler engine plant in Kenosha have a new chance at life, Gov. Jim Doyle said Monday.
As GM, the once mighty U.S. automaker, filed for bankruptcy protection Monday, Chrysler won a judge’s approval to sell most of its assets to Italy’s Fiat, and could emerge from bankruptcy this week.
Both announcements brought encouraging news for Wisconsin’s crippled auto industry.
The idled GM-Janesville factory is one of three assembly plants a possible sites to build a new small car, GM spokesman Chris Lee said Monday.
The other two are in Spring Hill, Tenn., and Orion, Mich., both of which will end production this fall.
“We are still alive,” Gov. Jim Doyle said.

D1B is a development coordinator for a charity in Janesville that, among other things, is a resource for women and their children who are in crisis. Getting these good jobs back to the area would sure help.

And, another thing, good things come from change. Things like this, whether it works out for Janesville or Orion or Spring Hill seem to me to be simply a massive market adjustment (Conks) helped along by some government help (Donks) which, when combined, work out for the common good.

Let's hope so.

Everything should work out fine Cappy.....union workers always claimed they could run the plant better than management and now that they are part owners, they'll get the chance....maybe they'll make an over-priced car that shuts down for 15 minutes of every hour.....

I heard all the new models come with a shovel to lean on during that "15" minute break.

That's what were dealing with in NC.....the Japs invented a shovel that could stand on it's own, so now there is the spectre of massive state worker layoffs......

I always thought it was the wheels. Only one of them actually works, while the other three just spin and watch the working wheel.

Only three watching, that is amazing. Half the roads in CF are tore up for construction, and there is maybe 1 guy working on the roads at any point as I drive by. More than half the time there is noone in the quarter mile stretch of University Ave (the main road in CF) workingon it
