Ronald Reagan statue unveiled in Capitol Rotunda

Nancy Reagan watched with delight as a bronze statue of former President Ronald Reagan was unveiled in the U.S. Capitol.

A blue cloth cover was pulled from the seven-foot statue of the 40th president Wednesday as Mrs. Reagan, 87, and a crowd packed with Reagan era-policymakers, looked on in the Capitol Rotunda. The statue cast Reagan flashing his legendary ah-shucks grin, the expression that transformed his face whenever he was ready to deliver the punchline of a joke.

Mrs. Reagan, seated next to her husband's friend, former Treasury Secretary James A. Baker III, said that it was nice to return to the Rotunda for a happy occasion. Her husband, who was president from 1981 to 1989, lay in state there after his death at 93 in 2004.

Greatest President of the 20th Century. Even those that hated his policies loved his wit and charm. Boy was he one funny President.

 Got me!

Here's how he could do it: Keep the country safe, eliminate the debt without raising taxes, replace the IRS with one of the more efficient flat tax schemes, return power to the states as originally intended by the founders, and most importantly appoint conservative judges and achieve legitimate and lasting social change through the legislative process and not judicial activism. :ugeek:

Reagan was the greatest President so far in my lifetime and easily surpasses the marxist occupying the white house for the next 4 years by a mile.

Save this post for posterity, IT, but, I agree. He was a great American, regardless of what many think of some grave policy faults. He did some good things, one of which was to get Americans fired up again after a very sad decade for America. I also think that Jimmy Carter and Richard Nixon were great Americans. They, too had some hellish and unprecedented things to try and work out. But, at least, they fucking tried. Gerald Ford, too.

I'm hoping Obama can recapture some of that Reagan stuff. Not because he's a Dem, but, rather, because it was a tough five, six, seven years before that. We have to give the guy a chance.

As fine an American as Reagan really was, I wager that he'd be shaking his head at the way Limborg and Hannity and some of those other fucks treat Obama. I'll bet his wife does.

My opinion only.

:D

I credit Obama for intelligence and political savvy. I disagree with most of his policies, but I won't demonize him and call him evil. If he could turn his alma mater Columbia into a winning football team, I might even vote for him! ;)

He'll do OK. Sucks, though, how, nowadays, due to the extreme polarization of our society (due mostly to a wildly irresponsible media - right and left - focused on ratings and ad revenue), presidents have to operate in the deafening din of a fucking scrutiny hornet's nest...in their own country!!!

Sorry buddy. Nixon was the greatest of the 20th cent. Reagan wouldn't have been able to do anything with Nixon.
