" For all of the foregoing reasons, we affirm the decision of the trial court that Al Franken received the highest number of votes legally cast and is entitled under Minn. Stat. § 204C.40 (2008) to receive the certificate of election as United States Senator from the State of Minnesota."

I wonder how much of this is the RNC finally realizing that they are shooting themselves in the foot by this obstruction, and need to keep a black mark off of Pawlenty, who, by process of elimination, might be the nominee in 2012.

Probably a mixture of that and an announcement in the next month or so by Coleman that he is running for Governor... He may have already damaged himself too much with the fight, but if he kept it going he would have definitely damaged himself as a viable candidate.

Pawlenty says he'll sign election certificate today

Gov. Tim Pawlenty plans to sign Sen. Al Franken's election certificate today.

In a statement issued just a few minutes ago, the governor said:

“The Minnesota Supreme Court has today addressed the issues surrounding the accuracy and integrity of our election system during the 2008 U.S. Senate race in Minnesota. In light of that decision and Senator Coleman’s announcement that he will not be pursuing an appeal, I will be signing the election certificate today as directed by the court and applicable law.

“I would like to thank Senator Coleman for his service. As state solicitor general, mayor of Saint Paul and United States senator, he has been an extraordinary leader and public servant for Minnesota. “I also want to congratulate Al Franken and wish him well as he serves the people of Minnesota.”

Among other slots Franken will sit on the Judiciary & Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committees.

Democrats in anticipation of his eventual win had placed temporary members on the committees.

I would think that they're both already damaged. The question is how much? Just losing to Franken cost Coleman some capital and then dragging it out hurt him a lot more in Minnesoat. Nationally, this might not hurt Pawlenty with the GOP base but it will create second thoughts for moderate independents if he gets that far.
