Pakistan: Taliban Buying Children For Suicide Attacks

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- A top Taliban leader in Pakistan is buying and selling children for suicide bombings, Pakistani and U.S. officials said. Children are shown at a training camp in this video footage shot by the Taliban.

Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud has been increasingly using the children in attacks, the officials said. A video released by Pakistan's military shows the children training for the task. In the video of a training camp, children can be seen killing and going through exercises.

Pakistan is a hell hole of filth and ignorance. My family lived in Karachi and Quetta back in the late fifties. My dad was the lone appointee from the U.S. Army to the Pakistan military Staff College, there were appointees from Australia, United Kingdom, and France also. We lived in armed compounds because of an insurgency in the region, then called the "Pathans."

People were being butchered daily even then.

People squatted in the streets to relieve themselves, right next to people cooking japattis (flat bread).

I have an extensive 35mm slide collection from the time we spent there.

Pakistan is a place to be contained, if possible, and stay the hell out of.

I've worked for Muslim's in the past, and there are a lot of them at UNI and they are some of the nicest, most caring, genuine people I've ever met. They condemn the actions of the extremists at every chance they get.

Agree. And it surprises me that alot of Americans (no offense to anyone intended) don't mind being an apologist for the religion & culture considering our past. At one time, blacks were classified in a similar manner and we (educated reasonable folks) seem to have no problem heaping scorn upon the purveyors of those sentiments today. It's not just a cultural difference IMO.....

There is truth in what Wedgie says. The Muslims that you have met at UNI are just a slice of the pie and those fortunate enough to get away from their homelands to pursue an education. Some are grateful for the opportunity and appreciate what the West has to offer, others are saying what they need to in order to get along.

There are schools of thought within the Muslim world that believe as Wedgie describes and to base your understanding of the religion and the people solely on the Muslims you have met in school is a little naive. You can't exactly compare Christianity to Islam today. Islam today has more in common with Christianity from centuries ago with intolerance fighting reform. It is a shame because Islam preserved much of the West's culture and learning through the Dark Ages. Hopefully, Islam is able to survive these dark ages.

There are a number of good books on the subject of Islam. If you're interested, I'll see if I can remember some of the ones that I have read. Soul Man and D1B might have recommendations as well.

In the most general sense: Organized Religions are dangerous - anything with an agenda that is well organized and seen as divinely inspired is trouble... who knew God was so angry..?
